Job summary

Dawsons Engineering is seeking an experienced Maintenance Fitter & Turner to join our fixed plant maintenance team on a mining operation in north west Queensland. You will perform mechanical maintenance, inspections, repairs, and machining across heavy processing plant infrastructure—ensuring maximum equipment reliability, safety, and operational efficiency.

The role offers a permanent position with a stable roster (8/6 Alt DS/NS), FIFO ex-Townsville, site accommodation and meals, and long-term

Qualifications

• Trade certificate (Fitter & Turner) or equivalent is required.
• Ability to pass pre-employment medical including drug & alcohol screen.
• Working at heights / confined spaces tickets within 2 years are required.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive, routine, and breakdown maintenance on fixed plant machinery (crushers, conveyors, ball mills, screens, pumps, gearboxes).
• Execute machining, manual turning, and precision fitting tasks to fabricate or repair components on-site.
• Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic faults to minimise downtime.
• Conduct precision alignments, bearing replacements, and drive system overhauls.

- Perform preventive, routine, and breakdown maintenance on fixed plant machinery, including crushers, conveyors, ball mills, screens, pumps, and gearboxes.

- Execute machining, manual turning, and precision fitting tasks to fabricate or repair critical componentry on-site.

- Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic system faults efficiently to minimize plant downtime.

- Conduct precision alignments, bearing replacements, and drive system overhauls.

- Uphold strict site safety standards, taking an active role in risk assessments, JSEA/SWMS development, and toolbox talks.
