Job summary

G.K. Staff Pty Ltd in Somerton, VIC, is seeking a Fitter (General) to support mechanical fitting, assembly, fabrication and maintenance across industrial equipment.

Our client G.K. Staff Pty Ltd is seeking to add a Fitter (General) to its Somerton-based operations. The position will support mechanical fitting, assembly, fabrication and maintenance activities across industrial equipment and components.

The successful applicant will work with hydraulic, pneumatic and mechanical systems, interpret technical drawings, perform accurate fitting work and assist with equipment installation, testing, modification and repair. The typical job responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:

• Fit and assemble fabricated metal parts, components and subassemblies for machinery and industrial equipment.
• Install hydraulic and pneumatic components, including hoses, fittings, lines, valves and associated equipment.
• Interpret drawings, specifications and technical instructions to determine fitting and assembly requirements.
• Check assembled components for accuracy, clearance, alignment and correct fit using precision measuring instruments.
• Perform fabrication, modification and adjustment work on mechanical components as directed by supervisors.
• Operate hand tools, power tools and metalworking equipment safely during fitting and assembly activities.
• Install and maintain pumps, motors, mechanical equipment and associated industrial service components.
• Repair and rework hydraulic and pneumatic assemblies to meet operational specifications and tolerances.
• Cut, drill, grind, thread and shape metal components to required dimensions and tolerances.
• Inspect mechanical components for wear, defects, damage or other conditions requiring corrective action.
• Assist with installation and fitting of equipment, accessories and structural components in workshop environments.
• Conduct testing and functional checks of completed mechanical assemblies and associated control systems.
• Report equipment faults, design issues and abnormal component conditions to the relevant supervisor.
• Complete routine maintenance activities and maintain tools, equipment and work areas in serviceable condition.
• Follow workplace safety procedures, technical specifications and quality requirements throughout fitting activities.

Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements to be considered for the role:

• AQF Certificate III or Certificate IV in Engineering, Mechanical Trade, Fitting or a closely related discipline.
• Minimum 12 months' recent, directly relevant experience as a Fitter, Mechanical Fitter or closely comparable tradesperson.
• Demonstrated experience fitting and assembling mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic components within an industrial or workshop environment.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, schematics and assembly instructions accurately and consistently.
• Practical experience using precision measuring equipment, hand tools, power tools and common fitting workshop equipment.
• Demonstrated capability performing mechanical repairs, modifications, fabrication and component adjustment to required tolerances.
• Sound understanding of workplace safety practices, equipment isolation requirements and safe mechanical fitting procedures.
• Ability to identify mechanical faults, report issues clearly and complete fitting tasks to documented quality standards.
