Job summary

Workfast is seeking an experienced Maintenance Fitter to join a well‑established Australian‑owned organisation in Townsville, specialising in recycling, waste recovery and resource recovery solutions. This hands‑on role involves preventative and reactive maintenance with a focus on conveyors and processing equipment, and welding/fabrication during downtime.

You will contribute to safe, efficient plant operation and reliability.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a Maintenance Fitter in heavy industrial environments
• Strong fault-finding and mechanical diagnostic skills

• Proven welding capability
• Safety-focused and quality workmanship

Responsibilities

• Carry out preventative and reactive maintenance on plant and machinery
• Diagnose, troubleshoot and repair mechanical faults
• Maintain and repair conveyor systems and related equipment
• Identify issues and contribute to continuous improvement
• Complete welding and fabrication when required
• Respond quickly to breakdowns to minimise downtime

Job description

Workfast is currently seeking an experienced Maintenance Fitter to join a well-established Australian-owned organisation specialising in recycling, waste recovery and resource recovery solutions.

This is a great opportunity to join a growing operation focused on creating a more sustainable future by recovering and reusing resources that would otherwise become waste.

About the Role

Working within a busy Facility in Townsville, you'll play a key role in keeping plant and machinery operating safely and efficiently. This is a hands‑on position involving both preventative and reactive maintenance, with a strong focus on conveyors and processing equipment. Welding and fabrication will also form part of the role when required during downtime.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out preventative and reactive maintenance across plant and machinery
• Diagnose, troubleshoot and repair mechanical faults
• Maintain and repair conveyor systems and associated equipment
• Identify potential equipment issues and assist with continuous improvement
• Complete welding and fabrication tasks when required
• Respond quickly to breakdowns to minimise downtime
• Follow all site safety procedures and report hazards, near misses and unsafe practices
• Work closely with the maintenance and operations teams to ensure equipment reliability

About You

• Previous experience as a Maintenance Fitter in waste/recycling, manufacturing, FMCG, food production or heavy industrial environments
• Strong mechanical fault-finding and troubleshooting skills
• Experience working with conveyors and processing equipment
• Proven welding experience
• Mechanical trade qualification such as Certificate III in Engineering - Mechanical Trade (desirable)
• Experience working with mobile plant and mechanical equipment
• A strong commitment to safety and quality workmanship
• The ability to work independently while also being part of a wider maintenance team
