Job summary

Sanwell Fire Protection in Welshpool, WA is seeking an experienced Fire System Design Manager to lead the design and specification of fire protection systems. You will manage a team of designers and engineers, ensuring compliant, high-quality deliverables for complex projects.

The role requires a tertiary engineering qualification and a Diploma in Fire System Design, with at least five years in fire system design and proven leadership abilities.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years' experience in fire system design within the building services engineering sector.
• Proven experience managing and mentoring technical teams in a design environment.
• Comprehensive knowledge of fire protection system design including sprinkler systems, detection and alarm systems, emergency lighting, and exit signage.
• Strong understanding of Australian fire safety standards including AS 1670, AS 2118, AS 1851, and NCC requirements.
• Proficiency in design software including AutoCAD, Revit and Microsoft Office and applications relevant to fire system design.

Responsibilities

• Design and specify comprehensive fire protection systems including sprinkler systems, fire detection and alarm systems.
• Manage and supervise a team of experienced fire system designers, providing technical guidance, mentoring, and performance management
• Ensure all designs comply with relevant Australian standards, building codes, and fire safety regulations
• Conduct site surveys and assessments to evaluate client requirements and site-specific conditions
• Prepare detailed design drawings, specifications, and technical documentation for client submission and installation teams
• Liaise with architects, engineers, building certifiers, and other consultants to integrate fire safety solutions into larger projects
• Review and approve designs produced by team members to ensure quality and compliance standards are met
• Contribute to tender preparation and provide technical support to the sales and estimating teams
• Stay current with industry developments, new technologies, and regulatory changes in fire protection
• Manage project timelines and budgets to ensure efficient delivery of design services

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Fire System Design Manager to join our team in Welshpool, WA 6106 on a full-time basis. What we're looking for

• Tertiary qualification in Building Services Engineering, Fire Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline
• Diploma of Fire System Design or the ability to obtain through a pathway.
• Minimum 5 years' experience in fire system design within the building services engineering sector
• Proven experience managing and mentoring technical teams in a design environment
• Comprehensive knowledge of fire protection system design including sprinkler systems, detection and alarm systems, emergency lighting, and exit signage
• Strong understanding of Australian fire safety standards including AS 1670, AS 2118, AS 1851, and National Construction Code (NCC) requirements
• Proficiency in design software including AutoCAD, Revit and Microsoft Office and applications relevant to fire system design
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively with clients, consultants, and installation teams
• Strong project management capabilities with proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
• Problem-solving skills and the ability to develop innovative solutions to complex fire safety challenges
