Job summary

Retro Traffic is seeking a Financial Controller to support the CFO in leading the accounting and financial control across multiple entities. The role owns the monthly close, board reporting, payroll controls and audit compliance while guiding a finance team.

The ideal candidate is CA/CPA qualified with extensive experience in high-volume payroll environments, advanced Excel and ERP systems, and a track record of improving reporting and controls in multi-entity businesses.

Qualifications

• CA or CPA designation with extensive experience leading financial control and month-end close.
• Experience leading finance teams in a multi-entity, business-to-business environment.
• Strong knowledge of complex reporting, controls and audit readiness.

Responsibilities

• Lead the monthly close with complete reconciliations and audit-ready working papers.
• Prepare monthly management accounts, board reporting pack and lender packs with variance commentary.
• Own the control framework over weekly payrolls and payroll controls with payroll, HR and operations.
• Drive billing accuracy and job profitability via job-to-invoice reconciliation and margin analysis.
• Conduct weekly supplier/creditor checks and manage credit control; own cash forecast inputs.
• Lead annual audit, statutory statements and NSW/QLD compliance with auditors and tax agents.
• Lead accounts payable/receivable and payroll; set standards and develop staff.
• Improve processes, document controls and automate reporting across systems.
• Act as primary contact for auditors and tax agents.
• Oversee R&D tax incentives, insurance renewals and intercompany charging arrangements.

Job Purpose

Retro Traffic is seeking a Financial Controller to suppor the company CFO in leading the accounting and financial control function across the group's entities. The role owns the monthly close, management and board reporting, payroll and payment controls, and audit and statutory compliance, while leading a finance team.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the monthly close with complete reconciliations and audit-ready working papers.
• Prepare monthly management accounts, the board reporting pack, regional trading statements and the lender reporting pack, with variance commentary.
• Own the control framework over the weekly traffic control and office payrolls reviewing exceptions with payroll, HR and operations.
• Drive billing completeness and job profitability through job-to-invoice reconciliation, unbilled revenue reporting and labour/job margin analysis.
• Run weekly supplier and creditor payment integrity checks (bank details, approvals and invoice support) and manage credit control over large contractor customers; own cash forecast inputs.
• Lead the annual audit, statutory financial statements and the NSW/QLD compliance calendar (BAS, FBT, payroll tax, workers compensation, ASIC) with external auditors and tax agents.
• Lead a team across accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll, setting standards, documenting procedures and developing people.
• Improve processes, document controls and automate reporting across systems.
• Act as the working contact for auditors and tax agents.
• Take on the R&D tax incentive claims, annual insurance renewals and design of intercompany charging arrangements

Qualifications and Competencies

• CA or CPA qualified with extensive experience leading financial control, month-end reporting and finance teams in a complex operating business.
• Proven oversight of high-volume payroll controls in an award or EBA environment.
• Technically strong across AASB 16, deferred tax, provisions, revenue recognition and consolidation, and able to defend a position with auditors.
• Demonstrated team leadership and commercial fluency.
• Advanced Excel and hands-on mid-market ERP experience, with a track record of improving reporting and controls across integrated systems.
• Experience in labour-intensive services, construction, civil, labour hire or logistics within a multi-entity group, and an aptitude for AI-assisted automation is highly regarded.
