Job summary

Charterhouse Recruitment (Australia) is partnering with a growth‑oriented logistics business to appoint a Financial Controller based in Sydney’s Mascot area. This hands‑on leadership role will steer the finance function and partner with senior leadership on commercial and strategic decisions.

You will own month‑end and year‑end reporting, establish controls, and drive budgeting, forecasting and cash flow management. Strong technical accounting, CA/CPA and people leadership are essential.

Qualifications

• CA/CPA or equivalent qualification required.
• Strong technical accounting and financial reporting experience.

• Proven budgeting, forecasting, cash flow and controls expertise.
• Proficient with Excel and financial systems.

Responsibilities

Financial Controller

Location: Mascot, Sydney

Salary: $210,000 – $230,000 + super, depending on experience

We are partnering with a well-established and growing logistics business to appoint a Financial Controller to lead the finance function and play a key role in the ongoing growth and development of the business.

This is a broad, hands‑on Financial Controller position that will suit someone who enjoys being close to the numbers while also partnering with senior leadership on commercial and strategic decisions.

Logistics experience is not essential. We are more interested in finding the right person, someone commercially minded, technically strong, confident managing a finance function and comfortable operating in a fast‑paced environment.

The Role

• Lead and oversee the day-to-day finance and accounting function.
• Own the month-end, year-end and financial reporting processes.
• Establish and maintain strong financial controls, policies and procedures.
• Provide senior management with clear insight into financial performance, risks and opportunities.
• Lead the annual budgeting and forecasting process, including analysis of variances and corrective actions.
• Monitor cash flow, working capital and the company's overall financial position.
• Oversee financial reporting and ensure compliance with relevant accounting and regulatory requirements.
• Manage relationships with external auditors and other key financial stakeholders.
• Provide commercial and financial input into business development initiatives, investments and other strategic projects.
• Identify opportunities to improve processes, systems and the overall effectiveness of the finance function.
• Lead, develop and mentor the finance team, creating a high‑performing and collaborative environment.
• Partner closely with operational and senior leadership teams to support business performance and growth.

About You

We are looking for a confident and commercially minded finance professional who can take ownership of a broad Financial Controller remit.

You will ideally bring

• CA/CPA or equivalent qualification.
• Strong technical accounting and financial reporting experience.
• Previous experience in a Financial Controller, Finance Manager or similar senior finance position.
• Strong understanding of budgeting, forecasting, cash flow and financial controls.
• Excellent Excel skills and confidence working with financial systems.
• Strong commercial acumen and the ability to translate financial information into meaningful business insights.
• Proven experience leading, developing and supporting a finance team.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• A proactive, hands‑on approach and the ability to operate independently.
• Strong attention to detail, organisation and the ability to manage competing priorities.

Experience within logistics, freight, supply chain or a similarly operational environment would be advantageous, but is not essential.
