West Recruitment is partnering with a high-growth renewable energy organisation to recruit multiple newly created Operations Accountant positions in Sydney. You will own financial accounting and settlement processes for a growing asset portfolio, partnering with operations to ensure numbers reflect activity.

The role combines hands-on accounting, complex reconciliations and process improvements, with clear opportunities to expand your remit as the business scales.

Qualifications

• Strong technical accounting foundation, ideally developed within a Big 4 or mid-tier accounting firm.
• Advanced Excel skills with ability to handle complex data from multiple sources.
• Experience in financial accounting, audit, financial control or revenue accounting.

Responsibilities

• Own settlement, payment and reconciliation processes for renewable energy operations.
• Reconcile financial transactions against underlying operational/trading data and investigate variances.
• Perform month-end accounting including journals, accruals, reconciliations and variance analysis.
• Support revenue recognition and accounting for operational and commercial arrangements.
• Work across multi-entity, intercompany, fixed asset and capital project accounting as applicable.
• Assist external audit with reconciliations, analysis and documentation.
• Build, document and improve accounting processes, policies and controls.
• Identify opportunities to automate processes and improve finance efficiency.

West Recruitment is exclusively partnering with a high-growth organisation operating within the renewable energy sector to recruit multiple newly created Operations Accountant positions.

With an established Australian operation and significant growth in the pipeline, the business is continuing to invest in its Finance capability.

About your new Role

Working as part of the Finance team and partnering closely with operational stakeholders, you will take ownership of financial accounting and settlement processes associated with the organisation's growing portfolio of renewable energy assets.

This is a hands-on role combining financial accounting, complex reconciliations, operational data and process improvement. You will investigate the numbers rather than simply accepting them at face value, working across Finance and Operations to ensure financial outcomes accurately reflect underlying operational activity.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Owning settlement, payment and reconciliation processes relating to renewable energy operations
• Reconciling financial transactions against underlying operational and trading data, investigating and resolving variances
• Performing month-end accounting including journals, accruals, reconciliations and variance analysis
• Supporting revenue recognition and accounting for operational and commercial arrangements
• Working across multi-entity, intercompany, fixed asset and/or capital project accounting depending on your experience
• Supporting external audit through preparation of reconciliations, analysis and accounting documentation
• Building, documenting and improving accounting processes, policies and financial controls
• Identifying opportunities to automate processes and improve the efficiency and scalability of Finance
• Working closely with Finance, Operations and other stakeholders to understand the commercial activity behind the numbers

About You

You will bring a strong technical accounting foundation, ideally developed within a Big 4 or mid-tier accounting firm, combined with an interest in working closer to the operational side of a growing renewable energy business.

You will ideally have:

• CA/CPA qualification with a strong grounding in financial accounting, ideally gained within a Big 4 or mid-tier accounting environment
• Previous experience within renewable energy, energy markets or another asset-intensive sector such as infrastructure, utilities or property development will be highly regarded
• Experience within financial accounting, audit, financial control, revenue accounting or a similar role
• Strong month-end, reconciliation and financial accounting capability
• AEMO/NEM settlements experience will be highly desirable but not essential
• Exposure to intercompany/multi-entity accounting, fixed assets, capital projects or technical accounting will be advantageous
• Advanced Excel skills and confidence working with complex data from multiple sources
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both Finance and non-finance stakeholders

Most importantly, you will bring an agile and proactive mindset. You will be naturally curious, willing to investigate discrepancies and ask why, and comfortable taking initiative in an environment where not every process has already been built for you.
