Job summary

Bega Valley Shire Council offers an Emerging Talent Program for a Finance Cadet to undertake an undergraduate qualification in Finance while gaining practical experience across Revenue, Procurement, Management Accounting, Accounts Payable and Payroll. The role may involve travel and residential study blocks, with structured learning, mentoring and funding for study-related expenses.

Council supports studies with one paid study day per week and funded course fees.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated interest in finance, accounting or related disciplines.
• Good written and verbal communication skills, including liaising with stakeholders.
• Analytical and investigative skills with accuracy and attention to detail.
• Willingness to learn and apply university studies in practice.
• Ability to work collaboratively while managing priorities and deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Assist in delivery of financial and accounting services.
• Provide administrative support to Revenue, Procurement, Management Accounting, Accounts Payable and Payroll.
• Assist with projects and initiatives as assigned by Finance leadership.
• Develop skills in financial reporting, reconciliations, budgeting and governance.
• Ensure information and reports are prepared accurately within timeframes.
• Understand financial policies and governance requirements.
• Apply university learning in a practical environment to develop professional finance skills.
