Job description

Your fit

You've spent the last few years developing your technical accounting skills, understanding how businesses operate, working with clients and solving complex financial problems.

But perhaps you're starting to wonder whether a career built around debits and credits, audit files, tax returns and financial statements is really where you see yourself long term.

An established organisation experiencing rapid growth is looking for an ambitious, commercially minded accountant to join its team as a Finance Business Partner.

This is an opportunity to step away from traditional accounting, leverage your financial knowledge and build a career focused on business relationships, commercial problem-solving, negotiation and delivering outcomes.

The Opportunity

Working with a diverse portfolio of organisations, from privately owned SMEs through to large ASX-listed businesses, you'll engage with business owners, CFOs, Finance Directors and senior executives to understand their challenges and deliver tailored commercial solutions.

You will develop meaningful relationships, identify business opportunities and work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to achieve successful outcomes.

The role offers exposure to a broad range of industries, business models and commercial environments, allowing you to build on your accounting foundation while developing valuable skills in business development, stakeholder management, negotiation and commercial decision-making.

Your success won't be measured by billable hours or how many financial statements you complete. Instead, you'll be recognised and rewarded for the relationships you build, the problems you solve and the outcomes you deliver.
What You'll Be Doing
  • Building business relationships: Developing and maintaining relationships with senior finance professionals, business owners and key decision-makers across a range of industries.
  • Understanding business challenges: Leveraging your accounting knowledge to understand organisational structures, financial operations and commercial requirements.
  • Identifying opportunities: Engaging with existing and prospective clients to identify business needs and develop tailored solutions.
  • Business partnering: Working closely with stakeholders to understand their objectives, provide advice and deliver commercially sound outcomes.
  • Negotiation and influencing: Managing commercial discussions, presenting solutions and influencing decisions to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes.
  • Managing competing priorities: Coordinating multiple client engagements, deadlines and stakeholder expectations in a dynamic environment.
  • Collaborating to deliver outcomes: Working alongside experienced colleagues, sharing insights and contributing to broader business objectives.
  • Growing your commercial capabilities: Developing expertise in account management, business development and relationship-led commercial activities.
About You

We're particularly interested in speaking with individuals who have developed their careers within external audit or business services, ideally with approximately 2–5 years' experience in a Big 4, mid-tier or reputable accounting firm.

You may have recently completed your CA or CPA qualification, or be approaching completion, and are considering how you can apply your skills beyond a traditional accounting environment.

While your technical foundation is important, it's your personality, communication skills and commercial mindset that will set you apart.

  • Excellent communication skills – confident engaging with clients, building rapport and communicating complex information clearly.
  • Strong commercial awareness – an understanding of how businesses operate, the challenges they face and what drives successful outcomes.
  • Natural relationship-building ability – someone who genuinely enjoys interacting with people and developing trusted professional relationships.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills – the ability to assess situations, identify challenges and develop practical solutions.
  • Exceptional organisation and prioritisation – comfortable managing multiple competing deadlines, stakeholders and responsibilities.
  • Confidence and initiative – willing to initiate conversations, challenge ideas and step outside your comfort zone.
  • Negotiation and collaboration – the ability to influence, work with different personalities and achieve outcomes through effective stakeholder engagement.
  • Drive and accountability – motivated by results, personal development and the opportunity to have a direct impact on business performance.

We're looking for someone with the right foundations, interpersonal skills and ambition to develop into a successful commercial professional.

What's On Offer?

You'll be joining an established, rapidly growing organisation that values initiative, collaboration and commercial thinking.

The environment is professional but relaxed, with an emphasis on autonomy, accountability and rewarding people for the value they create.

You can expect:

  • $90,000–$100,000 remuneration package, plus performance-based bonuses.
  • First-year bonus potential of $20,000–$75,000, with opportunities to increase your earnings as you develop.
  • Exposure to senior business leaders, including CFOs, Finance Directors and executives across SMEs, large private businesses and ASX-listed organisations.
  • Genuine career progression within an expanding business.
  • Mentoring and development from experienced commercial professionals.
  • Flexible working arrangements and unlimited leave, within a performance-focused environment.
  • A collaborative team culture that values relationships, initiative and shared success.
  • Modern offices located in Bowen Hills and Brisbane CBD.
