Job summary

Optimum Consulting in Brisbane is seeking a Senior Accountant to join a growing accounting and advisory team. You will partner with CFOs and manage a portfolio of major clients, performing budgeting, forecasting, complex Excel modelling and core accounting tasks.

The role involves hands-on month-end close, reconciliations, and supporting a small offshore team, with client-site days in Ipswich and Eight Mile Plains and one day in Brisbane CBD.

Qualifications

• CA or CPA qualified and eligible to practice.
• Minimum five years' experience in an Australian accounting environment.
• Experience in an accounting firm handling multiple clients and priorities.
• Strong month-end, reconciliation and management reporting capabilities.
• Proven budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis with advanced Excel.
• Confident communicator able to discuss financials with non-financial managers.
• Advanced Xero experience; grant or funding acquittal experience is highly regarded.
• Experience supervising remote or offshore teams preferred.
• Current driver's licence to travel between client sites.

Responsibilities

• Lead month end close including journals, accruals, prepayments and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Manage the general ledger in Xero, bank feeds, clearing accounts and payroll flows.
• Own P&L accuracy and analyse results against budget, forecast and prior periods.
• Prepare management reports and concise financial insights for leadership teams.
• Develop annual budgets, reforecasts, cash flow forecasts and scenario models with advanced Excel.
• Partner with managers to explain performance, cost drivers and budget responsibilities.
• Prepare grant and funding acquittals and maintain audit-ready records.
• Review and quality check work completed by bookkeepers and offshore team.
• Maintain SOPs, month end checklists and financial controls; drive continuous improvement.

Our client is a growing Brisbane based accounting and advisory firm supporting service based organisations in Brisbane. With deep expertise in child protection, community services and the not for profit sector, they bring accounting, compliance and advisory work together to give their clients clarity and confidence to plan ahead.

The firm has doubled its revenue in the past year and continues on a strong growth trajectory. As a result, they are now seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join the team in a newly created permanent role.

About the Role

Reporting to the CFO, you will act as the finance business partner and key accounting contact for a portfolio of three major clients. This is a varied, hands on role combining commercial business partnering, budgeting and complex Excel modelling with core accounting including journals, month end and reconciliations. You will be supported by a team of four bookkeepers and an offshore finance team.

The role is split across client and office locations:

• 2 days per week at a client site in Ipswich
• 2 days per week at a client site in Eight Mile Plains
• 1 day per week in the Brisbane CBD office

Key Responsibilities

• Lead month end close, including journals, accruals, prepayments and balance sheet reconciliations

• Prepare management reports and concise financial insights for leadership teams

• Prepare grant and funding acquittals and maintain audit ready records

About You

• CA or CPA qualified
• Minimum five years' experience in an Australian accounting environment
• Accounting firm background, managing multiple clients and juggling competing priorities
• Strong month end, reconciliation and management reporting experience
• Proven budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis capability with advanced Excel skills
• Confident communicator, comfortable discussing financials with non financial middle management
• Advanced Xero experience; grant or funding acquittal experience highly regarded
• Employment Hero and/or Shiftcare experience an advantage.
• Experience supervising remote or offshore teams is preferred
• Current driver's licence to travel between client sites
