Job summary

Orica is seeking an Engineer - Field Support in Melbourne to provide advanced engineering expertise and hands-on field support for Initiating Systems (IS) products. This 8‑month contract focuses on developing, improving, troubleshooting, and commercialising IS technologies in collaboration with operations and customers.

The role requires a Diploma/degree in Engineering or related fields, 3+ years in a technical environment, and strong electronics knowledge.

Qualifications

Diploma or degree in Engineering, Electronics, Mechatronics, Communications Technology, or related field.
Minimum 3 years in a technical/industrial environment.
Strong understanding of digital and analog electronics; able to read schematics.
Experience testing mechanical/electronic systems, including EMI/environmental testing.
Analytical, data-driven problem solving in field settings.
Experience in field technical support, equipment maintenance, or product development.
Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).
Basic CAD skills for reviewing/interpreting drawings (AutoCAD/SolidWorks).
Familiarity with hazard analysis, risk management, and safety standards.
Strong written and verbal English communication.

Responsibilities

Provide advanced technical and engineering support to internal/external customers, including Blasting Systems Centres.
Support testing, development, and rollout of new IS technologies through lab and field activities.
Assist with product verification, supplier qualification, data analysis, and technical reporting.
Contribute to development/continuous improvement of IS products, testing methods, and standards.
Participate in investigations, risk assessments, and root-cause analysis to resolve issues.
Prepare and maintain technical documentation including test reports and user guides.
Support establishment of new Equipment Centres via training and start-up activities.
Deliver specialist training on Blasting Systems equipment, including WebGen and EBS Field Hardware.
Perform equipment maintenance, repairs, and modifications as needed.
Identify/implement opportunities for continuous improvement across products/processes/ops.
Promote Orica safety systems and incident reporting processes.
Provide technical expertise for regional/global projects as required.
