Job summary

Orica is seeking an Engineer - Field Support to deliver hands-on engineering expertise for Initiating Systems in the field. You will work with customers and operations to troubleshoot, verify, and improve products while promoting safety and best practices.

The 8-month contract offers an opportunity to apply technical knowledge, support continuous improvement, and contribute to the rollout of new technologies and equipment across global operations.

Qualifications

• Diploma or degree in Engineering, Electronics, Mechatronics, Communications Technology, or related field.
• At least 3 years of experience in a technical or industrial environment.
• Strong understanding of digital and analog electronics; read circuit schematics.
• Experience testing mechanical and electronic systems, including environmental and EMI testing.
• Analytical and problem-solving skills with a data-driven approach.
• Experience in field technical support, equipment maintenance, or related roles.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).
• Basic knowledge of AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks; read technical drawings.
• Familiarity with hazard analysis, risk management, safety standards.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.

Responsibilities

• Provide advanced technical and engineering support to internal and external customers.
• Support testing, development, and rollout of new technologies, products, and equipment.
• Assist with product verification, supplier qualification, data analysis, and technical reporting.
• Contribute to development and continuous improvement of Initiating Systems products and standards.
• Participate in investigations, risk assessments, and root cause analysis to resolve equipment issues.
• Prepare and maintain technical documentation; test reports and manuals.
• Support establishment of new Equipment Centres through training and startup activities.
• Deliver specialist training on Blasting Systems equipment including WebGen and EBS hardware.
• Perform equipment maintenance, repairs, and modifications as required.
• Identify opportunities for continuous improvement across products and operations.
• Promote and apply Orica safety systems and procedures.

About the role

As an Engineer - Field Support, you will provide engineering expertise and hands‑on field support to help develop, improve, troubleshoot, and commercialize Orica's Initiating Systems (IS) products and technologies. Working closely with operational teams and customers, you will help ensure products perform safely, efficiently, and reliably in the field.

You will play an important role in maintaining high operational standards while delivering quality solutions that create value for the business and our customers.

What you will be doing

• Provide advanced technical and engineering support to both internal and external customers, including Blasting Systems Equipment Centres.
• Support the testing, development, and rollout of new technologies, products, and equipment through laboratory and field-based activities.
• Assist with product verification, supplier qualification, data analysis, and technical reporting.
• Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of Initiating Systems (IS) products, testing methods, and technical standards.
• Participate in investigations, risk assessments, and root cause analysis to resolve equipment issues and improve performance.
• Prepare and maintain technical documentation, including test reports, user guides, training materials, maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting instructions.
• Support the establishment of new Equipment Centres through training, start‑up activities, and ongoing operational support.
• Deliver specialist training on Blasting Systems equipment, including WebGen Firing Equipment and EBS Field Hardware.
• Perform equipment maintenance, repairs, and modifications when required.
• Identify and implement opportunities for continuous improvement across products, processes, and operations.
• Promote and apply Orica's safety systems and procedures, including Management of Change, Permit to Work, and incident reporting processes.
• Provide technical expertise and hands‑on support for regional and global projects as required.

What you will bring

• Diploma or degree in Engineering, Electronics, Mechatronics, Communications Technology, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience.
• At least 3 years of experience in a technical or industrial environment.
• Strong understanding of digital and analog electronics, including the ability to read and interpret circuit schematics.
• Experience testing mechanical and electronic systems, including environmental and EMI testing.
• Proven analytical and problem‑solving skills with a practical, data‑driven approach.
• Experience in field technical support, equipment maintenance, product development, or related engineering roles.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project.
• Basic knowledge of AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks, with the ability to review and interpret technical drawings.
• Familiarity with hazard analysis, risk management, and safety standards.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
