Job summary

Vekta is seeking a Field Maintenance Technician based in Melbourne to maintain, troubleshoot and service automated equipment for customers. You will perform scheduled servicing, diagnose mechanical issues and support installations, with travel to local, interstate and international sites as needed.

The role requires hands-on mechanical/electrical/mechatronics work, strong problem-solving and customer-facing skills, and a willingness to learn and grow with an innovative automation company.

Qualifications

• 3+ years experience in preventative maintenance, servicing, or industrial machinery.
• Experience in automation or manufacturing environments is highly regarded.
• Mechanical, electrical, mechatronics or related trade background.

Responsibilities

• Perform scheduled servicing and preventative maintenance on automated machinery.
• Diagnose and resolve mechanical issues to minimise downtime.
• Rostered shifts: 6:30–3:30 or 10:00–6:00.
• Troubleshoot bearings, gearboxes, motors, belts, conveyors.
• Assist with machine installations and upgrades.
• Respond to breakdowns and provide technical support.
• Deliver exceptional customer service and technical assistance.
• Complete service reports and documentation.
• Rostered admin days working from home.
• Travel to local, interstate, and international sites as needed.

About you

You may be an experienced maintenance technician, engineer, or tradesperson looking for your next challenge.

We're looking for someone who:

• Has 3+ years' experience in preventative maintenance, servicing, or industrial machinery.
• Has experience in automation or manufacturing environments (highly regarded).
• Comes from a mechanical, electrical, mechatronics, or related trade background.
• Enjoys hands-on work, problem-solving, and working directly with customers.
• Is eager to learn and develop new technical skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform scheduled servicing and preventative maintenance on automated machinery.
• Diagnose and resolve mechanical issues to minimise customer downtime.
• A combination of scheduled services - either 6:30 - 3:30pm or 10:00am - 6:00pm.
• Troubleshoot components such as bearings, gearboxes, motors, belts, and conveyors.
• Assist with machine installations and upgrades.
• Respond to equipment breakdowns and provide technical support.
• Deliver exceptional customer service and technical assistance.
• Complete service reports and documentation.
• Participate in rostered administration days working from home.
• Travel to local, interstate, and international sites as needed.

Required Skills

• Mechanical fitting and fault-finding experience.
• Experience servicing and maintaining automated equipment.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent communication skills and a customer-focused approach.
• Customer service experience is advantageous but not essential.
