Job summary

Sunshine Coast Regional Council is seeking a Field Leader - Civil to lead civil construction and maintenance crews across the Sunshine Coast region. The role coordinates staff, plant and resources to deliver projects safely, efficiently and to a high standard, and provides day-to-day oversight of works programs.

You will read plans, supervise staff and contractors, operate civil equipment and monitor progress and site safety.

• Demonstrated experience in civil construction and maintenance activities
• Previous experience leading or supervising field-based teams
• Ability to coordinate multiple tasks and resources effectively
• Strong plan reading, problem-solving and decision-making skills

About the Role

The Transport Assets & Operations Branch is responsible for delivering high-quality maintenance, construction and asset management services for Council's roads and associated infrastructure, including pavements, drainage, pathways, bridges and street furniture.

As the Field Leader - Civil, you will support the Foreman in coordinating staff, plant, equipment and resources to deliver civil construction and maintenance projects safely, efficiently and to a high standard. You will play a key role in leading field crews and ensuring operational outcomes are achieved across a variety of works programs.

Key responsibilities include:

• Lead and support civil construction and maintenance crews
• Coordinate daily work activities, resources and priorities
• Assist with supervision of staff, contractors and plant
• Read and interpret construction plans and specifications
• Operate and oversee the use of civil construction equipment
• Monitor project progress and site safety requirements
• Support emergency response activities when required
• Promote safe work practices and team performance

About you

You are an experienced civil construction professional with strong leadership skills and a practical, hands‑on approach. You are confident organising people, plant and materials while maintaining a strong focus on safety, productivity and quality outcomes.

As a requirement for this role, you will possess:

• Demonstrated experience in civil construction and maintenance activities
• Previous experience leading or supervising field-based teams
• The ability to coordinate multiple tasks and resources effectively
• Strong plan reading, problem-solving and decision-making skills
• Sound written and verbal communication skills
• A strong commitment to workplace health and safety
• The ability to work independently and under remote supervision

Essential to your success is physical agility and the level of fitness, strength and dexterity to carry out labouring and frequent heavy lifting & bending. As such, appointment to this position is subject to completion of a pre‑employment medical assessment.
