Job summary

CatholicCare Central Queensland is seeking a Family Support Team Leader to guide a multidisciplinary team delivering services to children, families and young people across the Rockhampton region.

You will oversee operation of tertiary intervention, secondary support, and family education programs, ensuring high-quality, compliant service delivery across funding streams and locations. Travel within the Diocese is expected.

Qualifications

• Relevant tertiary qualification in social services or related field.

The Family Support Team Leader provides operational leadership, practice oversight and workforce support to CatholicCare’s Family Support team, ensuring high-quality, compliant and sustainable service delivery across family intervention, secondary family support and child inclusive and family education services.

The role leads a multidisciplinary team of practitioners delivering services to children, young people and families experiencing vulnerability through programs such as Tertiary Family Intervention Services, Secondary Family Support, Child Inclusive Practice and Family Education. The role supports integration within the Family Services Stream and ensures services are delivered in accordance with funding agreements, legislative requirements, professional standards and CatholicCare’s mission and values.

The role is accountable for day‑to‑day service performance, staff supervision, quality assurance, workforce coordination and contribution to service sustainability, while working collaboratively with other Family Services Team Leaders and the Family Services Manager to support integrated, whole‑of‑family service delivery.

The Family Support Team Leader is accountable for:

• Providing day-to-day operational leadership of Family Support programs, including coordination of staff, workloads and service coverage across tertiary family intervention, secondary family support, child inclusive practice and family education services;
• Providing line management, supervision oversight and practice support to Family Support practitioners;
• Ensuring services are delivered in accordance with funding agreements, legislation and service guidelines;
• Monitoring service demand, caseloads and performance to support access, safety and quality outcomes;
• Overseeing documentation, quality assurance and risk management within Family Support programs;
• Supporting service integration, referral pathways and stakeholder engagement across the Family Services Stream; and
• Contributing to service development, continuous improvement and sustainability initiatives.

The Family Support Team Leader is expected to maintain the capacity to undertake direct client work and may carry a limited caseload, particularly for complex or high-risk cases, escalation support, or during periods of high demand, leave coverage or workforce vacancies.

Qualifications and Experience

• Relevant tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology, Community Services or a related discipline; and
• Postgraduate qualification in a relevant discipline; and/or
• Approved supervisor status (or working towards).

Core Competencies

• Substantial background and demonstrated ability to provide operational leadership and manage service delivery within a counselling and/or family services environment;
• Sound practice leadership capability, including supervision oversight and support for safe, ethical, evidence-based and culturally responsive practice;
• Demonstrated experience delivering family support, intervention and/or child‑focused services, including work with children, young people and families experiencing vulnerability;
• Demonstrated experience in staff supervision, leadership and coordination within a multidisciplinary human services team;
• Substantial understanding of relevant legislation, professional standards, funding agreements and service guidelines applicable to counselling, family relationship and child‑protection‑focused programs;
• Substantial experience working across multiple funding streams and, where required, across service locations;
• High level judgement, risk assessment and problem‑solving capability, particularly in complex or high‑risk family contexts;
• Highly developed communication, interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to monitor service performance, manage competing priorities and contribute to service sustainability and continuous improvement; and
• High level of digital literacy to support accurate documentation, data management and reporting within organisational systems.
