Job summary

CSIRO’s Australian Centre for Disease Preparedness (ACDP) in Geelong seeks a Facility Manager to lead a skilled technical team within our Secure Animal Facility. You will oversee high-quality animal care and specialist services enabling research into emerging diseases, vaccines and therapeutics.

You will combine people leadership with hands-on technical expertise, champion welfare, safety and operational excellence while supporting national biosecurity objectives.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in animal science or related discipline or equivalent experience.
• Experience leading diverse technical teams in animal research or facility operations.
• Strong knowledge of animal welfare codes and compliance requirements.
• Experience supporting research involving multiple species with hands-on handling.
• Experience in regulated environments, including ethics and biosafety frameworks.
• Excellent collaboration and problem-solving skills with researchers and veterinarians.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop the Secure Animal Facility technical team.
• Oversee day-to-day facility operations ensuring safety and quality.
• Coordinate procedures and standardise animal care and research techniques.
• Provide specialist technical support to research programs involving small animals.
• Champion animal welfare, safety, and regulatory compliance across teams.
• Support ISO 9001 and microbiological security requirements.
