Job summary

Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) Geelong hosts the Secure Animal Facility. The Facility Manager will lead a skilled technical team and oversee high-containment operations enabling research into emerging and infectious diseases, vaccines and therapeutics.

You will champion animal welfare, safety and operational excellence in a regulated, national-scale environment with meaningful impact on animal health and industry.

Qualifications

• Proven lead experience in animal research or similar regulated environments.
• Strong knowledge of relevant animal welfare codes and approvals.
• Experience with hands-on animal handling and complex procedures.
• Experience navigating ethics, regulatory, and biocontainment requirements.
• Ability to build cross-disciplinary relationships and drive improvements.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a diverse technical team within the Secure Animal Facility.
• Oversee day-to-day facility operations ensuring safety and quality.
• Coordinate complex procedures and standardise animal care techniques.
• Provide specialist technical support to research programs with small animals.
• Champion welfare, safety, quality and regulatory compliance with stakeholders.
• Support ISO 9001 and microbiological security requirements.
• Role is predominantly site-based due to lab work.
