Job summary

Harrison Barratt Group (Hbg) is seeking an experienced Estimator to own the estimating function for bespoke residential homes and duplexes in Sydney. You will take the numbers from plans through to purchase orders, working closely with the director daily.

This role demands end-to-end ownership, meticulous take-offs, and the ability to coordinate trades, suppliers, and tenders while maintaining cost control on complex bespoke projects.

Qualifications

• Experience estimating within residential construction.
• Trade background in building/carpentry is advantageous.
• Familiarity with Cubit and Buildertrend is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed take-offs and bills of quantities from plans.
• Coordinate quotes from trades and suppliers and manage procurement.
• Prepare and deliver tenders to clients ensuring alignment with the bill and build.
• Produce production estimates once a job is won and input into systems.
• Create purchase orders for site managers from production estimates.
• Liaise with director, site managers, trades and suppliers to keep projects moving.

Our client is a well-regarded custom home builder delivering genuinely bespoke residential homes and duplexes across Sydney. Every project is a true one-off, designed and built to the client's brief rather than pulled from a standard range of floor plans. No two homes are the same, which makes for genuinely interesting work and a business that takes real pride in what it delivers.

They've built a strong reputation in the custom residential space for quality, attention to detail and doing things the right way. Importantly, they've got a busy and growing pipeline at a time when much of the industry has slowed down, so this is a secure, long-term opportunity with a builder that's expanding rather than treading water.

The Role

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Estimator to take full ownership of the estimating function within a busy, growing team. Unlike a lot of estimating roles, this isn't narrow production estimating, it's genuine start-to-finish work where you'll own the numbers from the moment plans land through to handing purchase orders to the site team. You'll play a central role in the business and work closely with the director day to day. Your responsibilities will include:

• Preparing detailed, accurate take-offs and bills of quantities from architectural and engineering plans
• Managing the full procurement process, farming out and coordinating quotes from trades and suppliers, which make up a significant portion of each build
• Preparing and delivering tenders to clients, ensuring everything aligns with the bill and the build
• Producing trade reports and building out production estimates once a job is won
• Importing production estimates into the construction management software and creating purchase orders for the site managers to release
• Liaising closely with the director, site managers, trades and suppliers to keep projects moving and costs under control

Because every home is bespoke, you'll be building each estimate from scratch rather than working off master plans and minor variations. It's a role that will genuinely suit someone who enjoys the detail and variety of custom work.

About You

• Proven estimating experience within residential construction, ideally on custom, bespoke or one-off homes
• A building or carpentry trade background is highly regarded and will serve you well in this role
• Experience with Cubit is a strong advantage; familiarity with Buildertrend is also useful
• Comfortable owning the full estimating process end to end, from take-off through procurement to tender
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple projects concurrently
• Someone who can walk in, build an estimate from the ground up, and take genuine ownership of the role
