Are you a commercially minded construction professional looking to take the next step in your career? Our client, a leading Australian manufacturer and construction specialist, is seeking an Estimator to join their Orange-based team. Working across a diverse portfolio of self-storage, industrial and commercial projects, you'll play a key role in delivering accurate project pricing and supporting successful project outcomes from concept through to completion.
You will work closely with design, drafting, sales, project delivery teams, suppliers and subcontractors to ensure project pricing is comprehensive, commercially sound and delivered within required timeframes.
About You
You are a detail-oriented and solutions-focused construction professional with strong estimating, project delivery or quantity surveying experience and a passion for producing accurate project costings.
- Minimum 3 years' experience in construction estimating, quantity surveying, project management, site management or contract administration.
- Strong ability to interpret architectural, structural, civil and shop drawings and project documentation.
- Proven experience preparing quantity take-offs, Bills of Quantities and detailed project cost estimates.
- Sound understanding of construction methodologies, sequencing, installation practices and project delivery requirements.
- Experience estimating structural steel, cold-formed steel systems, mezzanines, portal frames, sheds or commercial construction projects will be highly regarded.
- Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills, with proficiency across the Microsoft 365 Suite.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD and estimating software such as Buildsoft Cubit or similar platforms.
- Strong analytical, mathematical and problem-solving skills, with excellent attention to detail, accuracy and time management.
- Excellent written communication skills, along with a White Card, current Driver Licence, Australian working rights and relevant construction, engineering, building or trade qualifications (highly regarded).
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare accurate quantity take-offs, Bills of Quantities, Bills of Materials and detailed project estimates.
- Review and interpret architectural, structural and engineering drawings, specifications and tender documentation.
- Develop comprehensive cost estimates covering materials, labour, freight, installation and site-related requirements.
- Identify project risks, assumptions, exclusions and key commercial considerations to support robust tender submissions.
- Assess constructability, installation methodologies and project delivery requirements to ensure practical project outcomes.
- Source, evaluate and negotiate supplier and subcontractor pricing to achieve competitive and commercially sound estimates.
- Collaborate with design, drafting, sales and project delivery teams throughout the tender, review and project handover process.
- Maintain accurate estimating records, documentation and reporting systems while contributing to continuous improvement initiatives and attending site inspections, tender briefings and stakeholder meetings as required.
