Job summary

Randstad is seeking an Intermediate Estimator for a major Commercial & Industrial builder in Melbourne. The role focuses on delivering accurate tenders from take-offs through submission, with exposure to cost planning and an agile mindset for on-the-fly adjustments.

You will lead tender preparations, coordinate with design, commercial, operations and site teams, and work on cost build-ups, risk analysis and value engineering to win competitive bids.

Qualifications

• Requires a construction-related degree and 5+ years as a Commercial Estimator.
• Experience delivering tenders autonomously from start to finish on new-build projects.
• Proven ability to work across teams (design, commercial, operations) and manage risk.

Responsibilities

• Lead the full estimating process from RFPs to submission, including take-offs and pricing.
• Prepare comprehensive tender documentation and cost build-ups.

• Analyse historical costs and benchmark for continuous improvement.

With over 40 years of operation, this well known builder specialising in Commercial & Industrial projects up to $400m is seeking an Estimator to join their high performing team.

Role:

Joining as an Intermediate Estimator, your primary focus will be to deliver accurate, competitive and timely tenders for Commercial New Build projects, managing from initial take offs to submission. You will also gain exposure to cost planning, with an agile mindset to adjust and react on the fly.

Key Responsibilities:

• Leading the full estimating process from RFPs through to submission: reviewing drawings/specifications, quantity take-offs, subcontractor pricing, supply/plant market checks, risk assessment, and margin setting.
• Preparing comprehensive tender documentation: cost plans, provisional sums, allowances, build-up schedules, assumptions, and clarifications.
• Collaborating with design, commercial, operations, and site teams to ensure alignment of scope, risk, and constructability.
• Analysing historical project costs and bench marking for continuous improvement.
• Engaging with subcontractors and suppliers to secure competitive and compliant offers, and negotiating pricing terms.
• Identifying value-engineering and cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality or program.
• Ensuring continuous monitoring of the tender pipeline, maintaining estimating records, and contributing to bid-review debriefs.

Requirements

• A construction-related degree.
• 5+ years as a Commercial Estimator, with experience managing tenders autonomously from start to finish.
• New-build experience in institutional, education, or government construction projects.
• Highly skilled in quantity take-offs, tender cost build-ups, BOQs, and risk analysis in complex environments.
• Comfortable working under tight deadlines with a strong track record of delivering successful submissions.
• A strong communicator and collaborator with the ability to work across teams and build relationships internally and externally.
• Proficient with Cubit, Bluebeam, and other construction software.
• Unrestricted working rights in Australia.
