Job summary

PBE Rutherford Mining is seeking an experienced Estimator to join the Tomago-based team. You will develop detailed cost estimates for mining, electrical, infrastructure and industrial projects and prepare winning tender submissions.

You will work with engineering, operations, procurement and commercial teams to deliver competitive bids, identify risks and value engineering opportunities, and support project handovers.

Qualifications

• Experience estimating mining/electrical/infrastructure/heavy industrial projects.
• Ability to interpret drawings and contract documents.
• Understanding of cost build-ups, productivity rates and commercial risk.
• Strong analytical, numerical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement.
• Experience with estimating software and Excel.

PBE Rutherford Mining is a trusted provider of electrical, mining, infrastructure and industrial project solutions across Australia. As our Projects division continues to grow, we are seeking an experienced and commercially minded Estimator to join our Tomago-based team.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in securing and shaping major projects by preparing accurate cost estimates, developing winning tender submissions, and providing technical and commercial input throughout the bid process.

About the Role

Reporting to the Bid Manager, you will be responsible for developing detailed estimates and tender submissions for mining, electrical, infrastructure and industrial projects. You will work closely with engineering, operations, procurement and commercial teams to deliver competitive, commercially sound proposals that support the ongoing growth of the business.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed cost estimates including labour, materials, equipment, subcontractors and indirect costs.

• Analyse drawings, specifications, scopes of work and contract documentation.

• Develop tender pricing, schedules, qualifications and commercial submissions.

• Identify project risks, opportunities and value engineering solutions.

• Engage with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain pricing and technical information.

• Participate in tender reviews, bid strategy development and tender clarifications.

• Support successful project handovers to operational delivery teams.

• Maintain estimating databases, cost libraries and benchmarking information.

• Contribute to continuous improvement of estimating tools, systems and processes.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will ideally possess:

• Previous estimating experience within mining, electrical, infrastructure, construction or heavy industrial projects.

• Strong ability to interpret drawings, specifications and contract documents.

• Sound understanding of cost build-ups, productivity rates and commercial risk.

• Excellent analytical, numerical and problem-solving skills.

• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.

• Experience using estimating software and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.

• A Trade, Engineering, Quantity Surveying or Construction-related qualification will be highly regarded.

• Knowledge of Australian standards and major client tender processes.
