Job summary

Bengalla Mining Company, a member of New Hope Group, is seeking an Environmental Advisor to support its Muswellbrook operation in the Hunter Valley. The role focuses on coordinating environmental activities, preparing performance reports, and engaging with the local community and contractors to ensure regulatory compliance.

The position requires tertiary environmental qualifications, open-cut mining experience, and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualifications in environmental management or related discipline are essential.
• Experience in large-scale open-cut mining environments preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
• Experience supervising consultants and contractors is important.
• Knowledge of NSW environmental regulatory framework is required.
• Ability to liaise with the community effectively.
• High computer literacy with mapping software such as MapInfo/ArcGIS.
• Civil construction and coal mining experience is highly regarded.

Responsibilities

Job description

Bengalla Mining Company (a member of New Hope Group) is a joint venture with a strong track record of achievement. Our focus is on maintaining strong safety, productivity, and profitability results. Operational since 1999, Bengalla is in Muswellbrook in the Hunter Valley, and supplies international markets with approximately 13 Mtpa.

The Role

The Environmental Advisor supports the continued operation of Bengalla mine.

Responsibilities

• Plan and coordinate environmental activities (including environmental monitoring programs).
• Prepare accurate environmental performance reports as required.
• Contribute to improving community and government relations by assessing and responding to community complaints and environmental incidents.
• Engage and direct contractors and consultants as required to assist with environmental management activities.
• Provide assurance and oversight to the sites environmental compliance.
• Assist with management and maintenance of Real Time Environmental Monitoring Systems.
• Engage directly with near neighbours and landholders.

Qualifications and experience

• Tertiary qualifications in environmental management, a related discipline or equivalent qualifications essential.
• Practical environmental management experience in large scale open cut mines.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience in consultant and contractor supervision.
• Knowledge of NSW environmental regulatory framework.
• Ability to liaise with the community.
• High level computer literacy and competency with mapping software e.g. Mapinfo/ArcGIS.
• Civil construction and previous coal mining experience will be highly regarded.
