Job summary

Redland City Council is seeking an Assistant Treatment Plant Operator to support wastewater plants across Redland City. This entry-level role combines hands-on operation, monitoring, sampling and basic lab tasks, with comprehensive on‑the‑job training and mentored progression toward a Certificate III in Water Industry Operations (Wastewater).

You will work outdoors, in a rotating roster, on a pathway to a long-term career in an essential service that protects public health and the environment.

Qualifications

• Positive attitude and genuine willingness to learn.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to identify when something doesn’t look right.
• Mechanical aptitude with interest in diagnosing and solving problems.
• Self-motivated with ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

• Assist with operation and monitoring of wastewater treatment plants across multiple sites.
• Support Treatment Plant Operators with inspections, plant checks and maintenance.
• Collect samples, perform basic laboratory testing, monitor treatment processes.
• Identify and report operational issues, equipment faults and safety concerns.
• Collaborate with staff and contractors to maintain safe, efficient plant operations.
• Assist with general housekeeping and maintenance of facilities and equipment.
