Job summary

Xero is seeking an Engineering Manager for the Machine Learning & AI team. You will lead a high-performing group of engineers building and operating AI-powered experiences across Xero, spanning ML models, automation, and agentic AI capabilities.

You will drive delivery with a focus on engineering quality, reliability, and scalable production systems, while mentoring staff and collaborating with senior engineers to shape technical direction.

Qualifications

• Leading, coaching and developing engineers to build scalable AI-powered products.
• Strong technical judgement across architecture, system design and engineering trade-offs.
• Translating business goals into executable engineering plans and roadmaps.
• Experience delivering predictable roadmaps in fast-paced, evolving environments.
• Ability to build and operate production-grade software across frontend, backend and infrastructure.
• Hands-on when needed to unblock the team and resolve complex challenges.

Responsibilities

• Lead engineering across surfaces from customer-facing AI experiences to backend services and infrastructure.
• Balance delivery with engineering quality, focusing on MLOps, LLMOps, observability and reliability.
• Shape technical direction with senior ICs while growing the team and sustaining engineering practices.
• Build systems and people to deliver AI-powered products at scale.
