Job summary

Compass is seeking a Head of Engineering to own end-to-end engineering delivery and lead a ~40-50 engineers across Compass, SchoolBytes, Griddle and Clipboard. Reporting to the CPTO, you’ll shape operating models, headcount plans and career frameworks to support a product-led SaaS environment.

You’ll work with Development Managers and Tech Leads to ensure scalable, secure and reliable delivery, while fostering a strong engineering culture and cross-functional collaboration across AU/UK/Ireland.

Qualifications

• This role requires extensive engineering leadership across multiple teams and managers.
• A track record of owning delivery outcomes in product-led SaaS environments.
• Experience scaling engineering organizations and driving change.
• Strong people leadership with coaching of engineering managers.
• Commercial and resource-management capabilities for capacity planning.
• Ability to align delivery with Product leadership and roadmaps.
• Experience using engineering metrics to drive performance.

Responsibilities

• Own delivery performance across squads and coordinate with Product on capacity and roadmap.
• Establish a scalable engineering operating model with planning, estimation and release practices.
• Lead headcount planning, hiring and onboarding in partnership with People & Culture.
• Develop engineering career paths and capability frameworks.
• Drive engagement, retention and a strong engineering culture.
• Partner with technical leaders to ensure reliability, security and quality.
