Job summary

Hayman Industries Pty Ltd is seeking a permanent, full-time Structural Estimator to review drawings and tender documents, and prepare cost estimates for structural steel fabrication projects. You will perform material take-offs, assess labour costs and supplier quotes to deliver competitive tender submissions.

Work closely with project engineers, architects and clients to ensure accurate costing, value engineering opportunities, and alignment with Australian standards.

Qualifications

• Diploma plus 1 year relevant experience or 3 years substitute to qualification.
• Ability to read drawings, plans and tender documents accurately.
• Strong skills in cost analysis and tender preparation.

Job Description

Hayman Industries Pty Ltd Duties and Responsibilities: Reviewing engineering drawings, architectural plans, specifications and tender documents to understand the scope and requirements of structural steel fabrication projects. Preparing detailed cost estimates, quotations and tender submissions for structural steel fabrication and engineered projects. Conducting material take-offs and quantity calculations from drawings and project documentation.

Estimating the costs of structural steel, other materials, labour, fabrication, subcontractor works and related project requirements. Obtaining, reviewing and analysing quotations from steel suppliers, subcontractors and other service providers. Comparing supplier and subcontractor prices and incorporating competitive pricing into project estimates and tender submissions.

Performing detailed cost analysis and financial calculations to determine accurate project costs and support tender pricing. Liaising with project engineers, site engineers, architects, builders, contractors, suppliers and clients to clarify project scope, specifications and requirements. Conducting site visits where required to assess project conditions, measurements, access requirements and other factors affecting project costs.

Reviewing project scope, drawings and specifications to identify inclusions, exclusions, variations and potential cost implications. Assisting with tender preparation, submission, evaluation and negotiation through to final tender settlement. Identifying potential cost-saving opportunities and value engineering alternatives during the estimation and tender phase, while maintaining client specifications.

Supporting the planning and coordination of structural steel fabrication and delivery requirements to ensure the estimated costs and project schedules are achievable. Reviewing proposed fabrication methods and materials to ensure they are consistent with project specifications, applicable Australian standards and client requirements. Working closely with the manufacturing and project teams to clarify estimating, material and fabrication requirements.

Drafting, editing and revising preliminary technical sketches, detailed working drawings, and material specifications to guide the Hayman Engineered Structures manufacturing team.

Relevant Qualification and Experience

At least a relevant Diploma plus 1 year relevant experience or 3 years relevant experience in substitute to the qualification

Relevant Skills

Ability to accurately read, analyse and extract complex information from engineering drawings, architectural plans and project specifications. Strong quantitive skills to perform precise material take-offs, labor calculations and detailed financial analysis for competitive tender submissions. Ability to analyze supplier and subcontractor quotes, compare market pricing and strategically build cost-effective, profitable estimates.
