Job summary

Thiess seeks a Mining Engineer to join the Eva Copper Mine Project in Northwest Queensland. You will report to the Senior Mining Engineer and develop designs and schedules for open-cut, hard rock mining while aligning with medium-range plans and site constraints.

Role requires 3+ years in mining engineering, experience with Vulcan/Deswik/CAD, and strong data reconciliation skills. On-site camp with DIDO/FIFO options and 8/6 roster.

Qualifications

• 3+ years' experience in a Mining technical role.
• Proven experience in open-cut hard rock mining.
• Understanding of reporting and reconciliation processes.
• Knowledge of mining principles, design concepts and operations (drill and blast).
• Familiarity with Australian mining standards.

Responsibilities

• Develop practical mine designs from shift to 3-month horizons.
• Align designs with approved medium-range plans and adjust as site conditions differ.
• Optimise haul road layouts and dumping strategies for cost-efficient haulage.
• Complete regular pit inspections with Mining Supervisors to confirm design intent.
• Review design non-conformances and update designs as needed.
• Use planning systems and reporting tools to produce accurate outputs.
• Develop daily, weekly and monthly mining schedules.
• Coordinate with broader mine planning support teams for schedule accuracy.

Thiess is seeking a Mining Engineer to join our dynamic team at the Eva Copper Mine Project located on the traditional lands of the Kalkadoon People, 75 kilometres north of Cloncurry and 95 kilometres north-east of Mount Isa.

Roster: 8 Day On, 6 Days Off | Location: Eva Copper, Queensland | Employment Type: Fulltime

Reporting to the Senior Mining Engineer, your duties will include:

Mine Planning and Design

• Develop practical, compliant mine designs from shift to 3-month horizons.
• Align designs with approved medium-range plans and highlight required changes when site conditions differ.
• Optimise haul road layouts and dumping strategies for cost-efficient haulage.
• Complete regular pit inspections with Mining Supervisors to confirm compliance with design intent.
• Review design non-conformances and operational issues, then update and reissue designs as needed.
• Use planning systems and reporting tools to produce accurate technical outputs.

Scheduling

• Develop daily, weekly and monthly mining schedules that meet Client and Contract requirements.
• Ensure schedules reflect fleet interactions and operational constraints to support safe, efficient execution.
• Analyse production performance and recommend sequence changes to stay on target.
• Prepare monthly estimates for trucking and material movement.
• Collate and reconcile daily production data, checking for anomalies and validating accuracy.
• Work closely with Mining and Maintenance teams to ensure planning assumptions match operational capability.
• Coordinate with broader mine planning support teams to maintain schedule accuracy and alignment.

About the Candidate

• 3+ years' experience in a Mining technical role
• Proven experience in open-cut hard rock mining
• Understanding of reporting and reconciliation processes
• Understanding of mining principles, design concepts and operations (particularly their relation to drill and blast and data reconciliation activities)
• Proficient in Vulcan/Deswik, CAD and MS Office tools
• Understanding of how technical outcomes impact financial results
• Knowledge of the relevant legislation, regulations, guidelines and Australian standards
• Well-developed written and oral communication skills
