Job summary

Evolution Mining's Ernest Henry operation in Cloncurry, QLD, seeks a Geotechnical Engineer to manage geotechnical risk across an underground mine. You’ll conduct inspections, data collection, modelling and support ground control plans, with a strong focus on safety and hands-on collaboration with operations.

You’ll bring tertiary qualifications in Mining/Civil/Geology, experience in underground geomechanics, and familiarity with Rocscience/Deswik or similar seismic tools.

Job description

As a Geotechnical Engineer at Ernest Henry, you’ll play a key role in managing geotechnical risk across a complex underground operation.Reporting to the Senior Geotechnical Engineer, you’ll work across underground inspections, data collection and modelling, contributing directly to safe production and mine planning decisions. This is a hands‑on role with strong exposure to site operations, where you’ll build capability quickly within a well‑established and experienced team.

Key responsibilities for the role include:

• Conducting underground inspections and managing geotechnical hazards
• Collecting and analysing geotechnical data to support ground control plans
• Supporting mine design, sequencing and ground support recommendations
• Completing numerical modelling and interpreting seismic and geotechnical data
• Maintaining QA/QC processes and contributing to compliance requirements
• Partnering with Mining, Engineering and Technical Services teams to support safe production

About you

You’re a practical and capable geotechnical professional who enjoys being close to operations and applying your technical expertise in a real‑world environment. You’re grounded in your approach, comfortable working independently and focused on delivering high‑quality outcomes.

We’re looking for someone who brings:

• Tertiary qualifications in Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering or Geology
• Experience in geomechanics within an underground mining or similar environment
• Exposure to numerical modelling and geotechnical systems (e.g. Rocscience, Deswik, seismic tools)
• The ability to interpret data and translate it into practical outcomes for site teams
• Strong communication skills and the ability to build relationships across operations
• A proactive, safety‑first mindset and willingness to learn and develop

This roster is 8/6 and is a 12‑hour day.
