At Ernest Henry, you can choose what suits your priorities. Work an attractive fly-in/fly-out (FIFO) roster from Brisbane, Townsville and Cairns or a drive-in/drive-out (DIDO) roster and take advantage of our top-class camp, or live local in the close-knit community of Cloncurry and be home every night.
This roster is 8/6 (dayshift only) and a 12 hour shift.

Ernest Henry has an opportunity for a Civil / Geotechnical Engineer to join the Tailings Management team to help deliver and ensure the safe operation, design and construction of the site Tailings Storage Facility (TSF) and Surface Infrastructure. You’ll use your engineering skills to monitor performance, review designs, and supervise construction so our Tailings Facility operates to the highest of standards and the infrastructure around the site is maintained as per mining standards.
Key responsibilities include:
- Review day-to-day TSF surveillance: inspections, instrumentation reads and variance follow-up.
- Analyse stability and water balance data; turn findings into clear actions and reports.
- Review designs and method statements; support QA/QC through construction and raises.
- Ensure compliance with Queensland regulations, company standards and ANCOLD guidance.
- Coordinate consultants and contractors to deliver best-practice outcomes.
- Plan and deliver small–large civils projects (e.g. roads, drains, buttresses, dams and site infrastructure).
- Lead safety: identify hazards, stop work when needed, investigate, and share learnings.
- Communicate simply and often—across operations, technical teams and leadership.
- Degree in Civil, Geotechnical or Mining Engineering.
- Experience with tailings/water or civil projects, and TSF construction / operation.
- Demonstrate contract management skills, project delivery and execution skills
- Confident with monitoring systems and Microsoft Office; AutoCAD Civil 3D / Deswik desirable.
- Strong judgement, priority setting and project delivery skills.
- Clear communicator who writes concise, defensible technical documents.
