Queensland Health is seeking a skilled Flow Commander for our busy Emergency Department. You will coordinate admissions, transfers and discharges while connecting clinical teams, patients and services to keep care moving safely and efficiently.

As a confident Clinical Nurse, you will lead with advanced nursing knowledge, think fast under pressure and continuously improve patient flow in a fast-paced setting with complex trauma and high acuity presentations.

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse with current AHPRA registration and annual practising certificate.
• Emergency nursing experience is a bonus.
• Ability to think on your feet and keep patients moving safely and efficiently.
• Collaborate across multidisciplinary teams to improve patient flow.

Job description

Join our busy ED, caring for around 130 patients every day across a diverse range of presentations, from everyday emergencies to complex trauma and critically unwell patients.
As Flow Commander, you’ll be the person who keeps the pieces moving, coordinating admissions, transfers and discharges while connecting clinical teams, patients and services. You’ll use your nursing expertise, quick thinking and leadership skills to solve problems, improve flow and keep care moving safely.

About us:

The Emergency Department is a fast-paced, dynamic team caring for both adults and children across Central Queensland.

With 52 acute treatment areas, including resuscitation bays and Fast Track, plus a 12-bed Short Stay Unit and Transit Lounge, there's always something happening!

We see around 130 patients every 24 hours, with everything from everyday emergencies to complex trauma and critically unwell patients. As a referral hospital for Central Queensland, we care for people from diverse backgrounds and work together to deliver high-quality care when it matters most.

About the role:

• Keep things moving. Coordinate patient flow through the ED, supporting timely admissions, transfers, discharges and transitions to other facilities or home.
• Be the connection point. Work closely with the PACH Nurse Manager, ED Shift Coordinator, medical and allied health teams, and internal and external partners to keep everyone connected and on the same page.
• Think fast. Lead confidently. Use advanced nursing knowledge, critical thinking and problem-solving skills to navigate challenges, identify risks and make safe, timely decisions in a fast-paced environment.
• Make flow work smarter. Provide clinical leadership, build strong networks and maximise resources such as the Transit Lounge to support safe, efficient and effective patient flow.

About you:

• You're a Registered Nurse with current AHPRA registration and an annual practising certificate. Emergency nursing experience is a bonus!
• Can think on your feet, understand the challenges of ED flow and find practical ways to keep patients moving safely and efficiently.
• Communicate with confidence, build strong relationships and collaborate across multidisciplinary teams, using negotiation and conflict-resolution skills when needed.
• Proactive, organised and passionate about improving patient flow, identifying opportunities for change and creating a positive practice environment guided by care, integrity, respect and commitment.

What we offer:

Total remuneration value of up to $55,235 p.a. is comprised of:

• An hourly rate between $57.76 - $61.85 p.h.
• 12.75% employer superannuation contribution
• 17.5% leave loading
