Job summary

Alstom in Ballarat seeks a Test Technician for the X’Trapolis 2.0 project. The role involves conducting inspections, commissioning, and detailed testing of electrical components to ensure quality and safety in line with project standards.

You will interpret test procedures and electrical schematics, troubleshoot issues, and produce accurate test reports while collaborating with Engineering teams on performance improvements.

Qualifications

  • Hold a Victorian A Grade Electrical Licence.
  • Strong understanding of train systems, architecture, and electrical/mechanical sub-systems.
  • Experience in train testing or electrical testing in the rail/industrial or similar industry.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct train inspections and preparation activities.
  • Perform routine commissioning and support static and dynamic validation testing in line with approved procedures.
  • Complete testing activities and sign off relevant test specifications to meet delivery schedules.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve technical issues during testing.
  • Prepare and issue accurate test reports, including documentation of failures and defects.
  • Collaborate with Engineering teams to address quality, reliability, and performance issues.

We are looking for a Test Technician to join our Ballarat team in a permanent position. Our Test Technicians are a close knit team working to execute the necessary tests on our trains. Each role will have accountability for the testing primarily of the electrical components and will operate in accordance with the established procedures and guidelines.

We’ll look to you for:
  • Conduct train inspections and preparation activities.
  • Perform routine commissioning and support static and dynamic validation testing in line with approved procedures.
  • Complete testing activities and sign off relevant test specifications to meet delivery schedules.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve technical issues during testing.

  • Collaborate with Engineering teams to address quality, reliability, and performance issues.Ensure all commissioning and testing activities are completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with project requirements.
All about you:
  • Hold a Victorian A Grade Electrical Licence.
  • Strong understanding of train systems, architecture, and electrical/mechanical sub-systems.
  • Ability to interpret and work from test procedures, electrical schematics, and technical documentation.
  • Excellent technical troubleshooting, fault-finding, and problem-solving skills.
  • Skilled in preparing accurate test reports and maintaining detailed commissioning records.
  • Experience in train testing or electrical testing in the rail/automotive/industrial or similar industry.
