Job summary

ATS Group is seeking an Electrical Technician to join our growing team focused on commercial HVAC, refrigeration and controls across industrial sites. You will perform a mix of installation, service, fault finding and commissioning work.

This role requires a current Queensland Electrical Licence, strong fault-finding skills and the ability to read electrical drawings. You’ll work with our HVAC/R team, project managers and service technicians, with ongoing training and clear career progression.

Qualifications

Electrical Technician - HVAC & BMS Control

ATS Group is looking for an experienced Electrical Technician to join our growing electrical, HVAC, refrigeration and controls team.

We are looking for a well-rounded electrician who enjoys a mix of installation work, service, breakdowns, fault finding and technical controls work.

The role has a strong focus on commercial HVAC and BMS systems, but you will also be involved in general commercial electrical works, switchboard and control panel building, equipment installations, upgrades, repairs and commissioning.

This is a varied field-based role suited to someone who enjoys solving problems, takes pride in their workmanship and wants to continue developing technically.

You will work across commercial and industrial sites alongside our HVAC/R technicians, electricians, project managers and commissioning team.

About the role

As an Electrical Technician with ATS Group, you will carry out a broad range of electrical works across commercial HVAC, refrigeration, mechanical services and general electrical projects.

Your day-to-day work may include a new electrical or HVAC installation, diagnosing an electrical fault, attending an urgent breakdown, modifying a switchboard, building a control panel or assisting with the commissioning of a BMS or mechanical plant.

The role includes both project and service work, giving you exposure to a broad range of electrical and control systems rather than doing the same type of work every day.

What you will be doing

• Commercial electrical installations, upgrades and modifications
• Electrical service, maintenance and repair works
• Breakdown response and electrical fault finding
• Electrical works associated with commercial HVAC and refrigeration equipment
• Installation and wiring of mechanical services equipment
• Switchboard and control panel building, modifications and upgrades
• Control panel layout, assembly, wiring, labelling and testing
• Installation and testing of VSDs, sensors, actuators, controllers and field devices
• BMS installation, point-to-point testing and commissioning support
• Fault finding on electrical and control circuits
• Testing and commissioning of new and existing equipment
• Reading and interpreting electrical drawings, wiring diagrams and control schematics
• Completing electrical testing, commissioning documentation and job reports
• Working closely with our HVAC/R technicians and project teams
• Maintaining high standards of safety, compliance and workmanship

About you

• Hold a current Queensland Electrical Licence
• Have commercial electrical installation and service experience
• Are confident with electrical fault finding and problem solving
• Can carry out breakdown, repair and maintenance work
• Can read and interpret electrical drawings and wiring diagrams
• Have experience with switchboards, control panels or control circuits
• Have a strong understanding of electrical safety and compliance
• Take pride in neat, accurate and professional workmanship
• Communicate well with clients, supervisors and other trades
• Can work independently while still being part of a team
• Hold a current driver's licence

Experience in any of the following would be highly regarded:

• Commercial HVAC electrical systems
• BMS and building automation systems
• HVAC controls and control wiring
• VSDs, sensors, actuators and field controllers
• Control panel and switchboard building
• Electrical fault finding on mechanical plant
• PLC or controls programming
• Commercial refrigeration
• Mechanical services installations
• Testing and commissioning
• Supermarkets, cold storage, commercial buildings or industrial facilities
• Construction White Card
• EWP, Working at Heights or other relevant tickets

You do not need experience in every area above. A strong electrician with good fault-finding skills and the right attitude can be trained further in HVAC, BMS and controls.
