Job summary

Arctic Cold Refrigeration – Hervey Bay QLD is seeking an Electrical Leading Hand to lead commercial and industrial electrical installations, mentor electricians and apprentices, and ensure project milestones are met. This role requires a Qualified Electrician with a current Queensland Electrical License, strong leadership, and the ability to read drawings and coordinate on‑site activities.

Qualifications

• Qualified Electrician with a current Queensland Electrical License.
• Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience on electrical projects.
• Strong ability to read electrical drawings and interpret specifications.
• Excellent communication with project managers, trades and clients.
• Reliable, self-motivated and proactive with a safety‑minded approach.

Responsibilities

• Lead day‑to‑day electrical installations across commercial/industrial projects.
• Supervise electricians and apprentices, fostering a productive site culture.
• Perform hands‑on electrical work alongside the team on installations and switchboards.
• Plan daily activities, materials and labour to keep projects on schedule.
• Coordinate with Project Managers, communicate progress, and flag risks early.
• Accurately interpret plans and ensure compliance with standards and specs.
• Maintain high workmanship and safety standards, support testing and commissioning.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Leading Electrical Installations – Taking responsibility for the day‑to‑day delivery of electrical works across commercial and industrial projects.
• Supervising Your Team – Leading and mentoring electricians and apprentices while maintaining a productive and positive site environment.
• Hands‑On Electrical Work – Working alongside your team on installations, switchboards, cabling installation, controls and associated electrical systems.
• Planning & Coordination – Organising daily activities, materials and labour to keep projects running efficiently.
• Working with Project Managers – Communicating project progress, identifying potential issues and assisting with planning and scheduling.
• Reading Plans & Specifications – Interpreting electrical drawings and ensuring installations meet project requirements.
• Quality & Safety – Maintaining high workmanship standards and ensuring compliance with relevant Australian Standards and safety requirements.
• Testing & Commissioning – Assisting with electrical testing, commissioning and project handover.

What We’re Looking For

• Qualified Electrician – Current Queensland Electrical License.
• Commercial Experience – Strong background in commercial or industrial electrical installations.
• Leadership Ability – Previous Leading Hand experience is highly regarded, but we’re equally interested in experienced electricians ready to step up.
• Strong Technical Knowledge – Confident reading drawings, solving installation challenges and making practical site decisions.
• Organised & Proactive – Ability to plan ahead, coordinate materials and keep work progressing.
• Quality Workmanship – Someone who takes pride in delivering a professional result.
• Team Leadership – A positive attitude with the ability to motivate, guide and support other tradespeople.
• Communication Skills – Comfortable dealing with Project Managers, builders, other trades and clients.
• Reliable & Motivated – Current driver’s licence and a commitment to delivering quality work.

Experience in electrical installations, mechanical services switchboards and control systems would be an advantage, but is not essential.
