Job summary

The role covers LV/HV and substation environments, with opportunity to grow in protection, protection philosophies, SCADA interfaces and field commissioning across energy, infrastructure and industrial projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• RPEQ/CPEng pathway desirable but not essential at this level.
• Australian working rights required.

Responsibilities

• Undertake electrical and power systems engineering across LV, HV and substation environments.
• Prepare and review electrical designs, calculations, drawings, reports and specifications.
• Support power system studies including fault levels, protection, voltage drop and cable sizing.
• Contribute to protection/secondary systems work including IEC 61850 interfaces and commissioning support.
• Support utility/distribution design and Energex/SEQ requirements where applicable.
• Provide earthing, HV/LV, equipment and interface engineering across transmission and distribution projects.
• Assist with testing, commissioning, audits and site engineering activities.
• Coordinate with clients, contractors and other disciplines.

We are supporting a specialist electrical engineering consultancy supporting clients across the energy, infrastructure and industrial sectors. They deliver a broad mix of design, studies, technical advisory, auditing, commissioning and project engineering support across the full project lifecycle.

About The Role

We are seeking an Electrical Engineer to be based in Brisbane, supporting a diverse portfolio of client work from early-stage engineering and studies through detailed design, delivery, testing and commissioning. Depending on the successful candidates experience, there is scope to take ownership of small packages and client interfaces while developing under the companies’ senior engineers.

Key Responsibilities

• Undertake electrical and power systems engineering work across LV, HV and substation environments.
• Prepare and review electrical designs, calculations, drawings, technical reports, specifications and engineering deliverables.
• Support power system studies, including fault levels, protection, voltage drop, cable sizing and related network calculations.
• Contribute to protection and secondary systems work, including protection philosophies/settings, logic, SCADA/IEC 61850 interfaces and commissioning support where relevant.
• Support utility/distribution design and connection activities, including Energex/SEQ requirements where applicable.
• Provide earthing, HV/LV, equipment and interface engineering support across transmission, distribution, renewables and industrial projects.
• Support field testing, commissioning, technical audits and site/project engineering activities as required.
• Manage technical queries and coordinate with clients, contractors, suppliers and other engineering disciplines.
• Assist with project scope definition, design management, procurement support and engineering close-out.
• Apply relevant Australian Standards, utility requirements, safety-in-design principles and the companies quality processes.

Skills & Experience

• Approximately 4-7+ years of electrical engineering experience is preferred; strong candidates outside this range will still be considered based on capability.
• Experience within power, utilities, substations, renewables, EPC, consultancy or industrial electrical environments.
• Practical experience in one or more of: electrical design, power system studies, protection/secondary systems, utility design, commissioning or project engineering.
• Energex or South East Queensland distribution design exposure is highly regarded.
• Experience with PowerCAD and/or SKM PowerTools for Windows (PTW) is advantageous.
• Exposure to transmission or distribution networks, protection systems, SCADA/IEC 61850, earthing or HV commissioning is advantageous.
• Field, trade or site-based experience is valued, particularly where it has built a practical understanding of how engineering designs are installed, tested and commissioned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent recognised qualification.
• RPEQ / CPEng, or a clear pathway toward professional registration, is desirable but not essential at this level.
• Australian working rights.
