Job summary

UNSW is seeking an Educational Technology Specialist to connect teaching with technology across the Education portfolio. You will support the use of educational tools, configure platforms, test changes, and document processes while ensuring alignment with university standards.

You will work with educators and IT teams to pilot and scale emerging technologies, deliver training, and improve learning experiences through technology-enabled solutions across departments.

Qualifications

• Relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent professional experience.
• Ability to support, guide and consult on educational technologies including web-based and media systems.
• Experience delivering high-quality training programs for academic and professional staff and students.

• Employment Type: Full Time (35 hours per week)
• Duration: 2 x FT Contracts until December 2027
• Remuneration: Level 7 from $118k + 17% superannuation & leave loading

Why your role matters

The Educational Technology Specialist plays a key role within the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Education portfolio as part of the Educational Technology Enablement team. The position connects teaching needs with technology by supporting the effective use of educational tools and providing operational oversight of UNSW's educational technology services and platforms.

The role is responsible for implementing, supporting and continuously improving technology-enhanced learning experiences. This includes working closely with academic staff to support the effective integration of tools such as the learning management system, digital assessment, media tools and other learning applications. The position also contributes to platform configuration, testing, documentation and process improvement, ensuring services meet the needs of educators.

The Educational Technology Specialist monitors system performance and user feedback to identify opportunities for improvement, escalates issues where required and ensures compliance with institutional and technical standards. Working collaboratively with the Educational Technology Enablement and Educational Excellence teams, the role supports the delivery of portfolio projects and initiatives while maintaining current business knowledge across all team functions.

The position plays a critical role in piloting and scaling emerging technologies, working with educators, IT teams, vendors and governance bodies to align technology use with UNSW's strategic and educational goals.

Specific Accountabilities Include

• Enhance Teaching and Learning through Technology: Provide guidance and support to academic staff on the effective use of educational technologies in different teaching contexts in collaboration with the Educational Excellence team as required. Collaborate closely with educators and academic stakeholders to understand their pedagogical needs to ensure education technologies are fit for purpose, scalable and aligned with institutional goals; Champion the continuous improvement of education technologies and user-centred design and adoption.
• Support Capability Building: Provide support, training, guidance, and resources to academic and professional staff to improve their confidence and capability in using educational technologies effectively ( (e.g., LMS, Turnitin, assessment tools)
• Support Learning Platforms: Coordinate operational services, vendor collaborations and contribute to the problem solving, effective use, optimisation, and enhancement of the University's Educational Technology platforms to support system stability, accessibility, and high-quality user experience.

About You

• A relevant tertiary qualification in a relevant field or an equivalent level of knowledge and experience gained through a combination of education and training.
• Demonstrated ability to support, guide and provide consultation for educational technologies, including web-based educational and media systems and in the provision of technical help desk support.
• Demonstrated experience contributing to the design and delivering of high-quality training programs and resources to academic staff, professional staff and students, with a customer-focused approach.
• High-level problem-solving skills and ability to exercise initiative and autonomy in interacting with and critically evaluating new and emerging educational technologies to enhance services and processes.
• Strong service orientation and customer focused together with excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to build and maintain positive and professional relationships with staff at all levels and internal and external stakeholders.
• Advanced level of skills in using various educational technology applications; including exposure to the Microsoft Power Platform, HTML, JSON, XML.
• Experience identifying and implementing automation, integration, and process improvements using appropriate platforms and technologies.
• Continuous improvement mindset with the ability to identify opportunities to enhance systems, processes, and user experiences through innovative solutions.
• Demonstrated capacity for effective project and resource management and experience in participating/ contributing to e-learning projects and initiatives.
• Excellent organisational and time management skills, including the ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and conflicting deadlines; ability to work autonomously and contribute to the team.
