Job summary

The Department of Education in Australia is seeking an Economic Analyst to provide rigorous economic advice across early childhood education, schools and higher education sectors. You will use econometric techniques and literature-informed methods to assess policy impacts and forecast education indicators.

In this role you will develop and apply economic models, analyze datasets, prepare briefings and communicate findings to senior decision makers and policy partners.

Qualifications

  • Citizenship: Australian citizen required.
  • Security clearance: designated security assessed position, ability to obtain and maintain required clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the implementation and application of economic models, including econometric, structural, behavioural, time series, forecasting and microsimulation models, to assess the likely impacts of policy proposals and support evidence-based decision making.
  • Analyse survey and administrative datasets using economic frameworks to identify trends and diagnose policy issues.
  • Apply causal inference and economics research techniques to understand drivers of outcomes and assess the effectiveness of government interventions.
  • Prepare high-quality briefings, reports, literature reviews, presentations and written advice that clearly communicate analytical findings, methodologies, assumptions and recommendations to senior decision makers and non-technical audiences.
  • Present findings and strategic advice to key stakeholders, including Senior Executives, government agencies and policy partners, building understanding of economic evidence and its implications for policy development and implementation.
