Job summary

The Department of Education in Australia is seeking an Economic Analyst to provide rigorous economic advice across early childhood education, schools and higher education sectors. Responsibilities

• Lead the implementation and application of economic models, including econometric, structural, behavioural, time series, forecasting and microsimulation models, to assess the likely impacts of policy proposals and support evidence-based decision making.
• Analyse survey and administrative datasets using economic frameworks to identify trends and diagnose policy issues.
• Apply causal inference and economics research techniques to understand drivers of outcomes and assess the effectiveness of government interventions.
• Prepare high-quality briefings, reports, literature reviews, presentations and written advice that clearly communicate analytical findings, methodologies, assumptions and recommendations to senior decision makers and non-technical audiences.
• Present findings and strategic advice to key stakeholders, including Senior Executives, government agencies and policy partners, building understanding of economic evidence and its implications for policy development and implementation.

Eligibility

Employment at the Department of Education is subject to conditions prescribed within the Public Service Act 1999 including:

• Citizenship: Under section 22(8) of the Public Service Act 1999, employees must be Australian citizens to be employed in the APS unless the Agency delegate has agreed, in writing.
• Security Clearance: This is a designated security assessed position. The successful candidate will have the ability to obtain and maintain the required security clearance.
