Job summary

News Corp Australia is recruiting for a Backend/AI Engineer to build and scale AI systems powering our editorial products. You will own agents, retrieval pipelines, and ensure high-quality outputs as we scale, while keeping costs and latency sensible.

You will work closely with journalists and editors, contributing to a culture that blends cutting-edge AI with strong newsroom judgment, in a hybrid role across multiple offices.

Qualifications

• Must have strong Python engineering with production backend experience.
• Experience building LLM-powered applications on Gemini, OpenAI or Anthropic models.
• Experience orchestrating multi-agent frameworks and possibly Google ADK; LangGraph or similar acceptable.
• Deep knowledge of RAG: embeddings, chunking, grounding, citations.
• Ability to manage concurrency at scale: job queues, rate limits, retries.
• Cloud experience with GCP (Cloud Run, Cloud Run Jobs) and modern cloud tooling.

Responsibilities

• Build and scale the AI systems behind editorial products, including agents, retrieval, and pipelines.
• Own quality of outputs, measure performance, and keep costs and latency in check as scaling occurs.
• Collaborate directly with journalists and editors to meet high standards.
