News Corp Australia is seeking a Python backend engineer to build and scale AI systems powering editorial products. You will own model quality, measurement, and cost/latency as the systems scale, working directly with journalists and editors in a hybrid setup.
The role offers a split between Southbank or Surry Hills offices with two days remote, promoting collaboration with News Corp's diverse brands and a fast-paced, innovation-driven environment.
Editorial Innovation builds and supports AI capability for our newsrooms. We're a small team working directly with journalists and editors, taking ideas from prototype to something the newsroom uses every day.
In this role, you'll build and scale the AI systems behind our editorial products: the agents, the retrieval, and the pipelines that run them. You'll own the quality of what those systems produce, measure it properly, and keep cost and latency sensible as we scale. You'll work directly with journalists and editors, whose judgment sets the bar. This role can be based at either our Southbank, VIC or Surry Hills, NSW office with 2 days per week from home.
Join a culture where innovation is our operating rhythm. You’ll work on a diverse portfolio of Australia’s most loved brands and play a pivotal role in leading the technological shift in how we create commercial content.
