Job summary

Geelong English Language School (GELS) is seeking a dedicated classroom teacher to support EAL students across multiple year levels. You will deliver direct instruction, contribute to curriculum development and work with families and staff to promote student wellbeing and engagement.

The role requires registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching and a commitment to high-quality instruction, ongoing professional learning, and collaboration within the school community.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated knowledge of the relevant curriculum, including the ability to incorporate the teaching of literacy and numeracy skills; respond to student learning needs.
• Ability to plan for and implement high impact teaching strategies guided by how students learn, and evaluate impact on student learning growth.
• Ability to monitor and assess student learning; use data to inform teaching and provide feedback to students and parents.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills; establish and maintain collaborative relationships with students, parents, colleagues and the school community.
• Demonstrated behaviours and attitudes consistent with Department values; reflect on practice and engage in professional learning.
• Comprehensive knowledge of EAL pedagogy, student learning processes, plurilingual strategies and cross-cultural awareness.

Responsibilities

• Direct teaching of groups of students and individual students.
• Contributing to development, implementation and evaluation of curriculum programs.
• Undertaking other classroom teaching related and organisational duties as determined by the Principal.
• Participating in activities such as parent/teacher meetings; staff meetings; camps and excursions.
• Undertaking other non-teaching supervisory duties.
