Job summary

Geelong English Language School (GELS) seeks an Education Support Class member to assist in delivering intensive EAL programs. Under supervision, you will support students P-10, coordinate routine tasks, and help teachers with classroom activities in a diverse, inclusive setting.

You will translate for students and families, help prepare resources, and liaise with external support services. The role emphasizes wellbeing, data maintenance, and professional growth within a Victorian government

Qualifications

• Education support class position supports students under supervision and direction.
• Ability to translate between teachers, students and families from diverse cultural backgrounds.
• Familiarity with ICT and digital learning tools relevant to EAL support.
• Commitment to professional learning and growth.
• Proficiency in English and Farsi/Dari is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Support student learning on an individual or group basis with direction from class teacher
• Translate communication between teachers and non-English speaking students in the classroom
• Translate communication between teachers and non-English speaking parents, e.g. enrolment interviews and Parent/Teacher Conferences
• Assist in the translation of school documents and resources, including interpreting services
• Prepare basic curriculum resources
• Assist school in liaising with external support service providers, teachers, students, and their families
• Support staff in student wellbeing
• Where possible provide teachers with insight into students' cultural backgrounds and experiences
• Literacy in Farsi/ Dari language or a combination of languages is desirable
