Job summary

Geelong English Language School seeks a Multicultural Education Aide to support intensive EAL programs across Foundation to Year 10. You will work under supervision to assist teachers, translate communications, and help build inclusive classroom environments.

The role requires strong ICT skills, effective communication with culturally diverse students and families, and proficiency in English and Karen/Karenni.

Qualifications

• Capacity to support teachers and students in intensive EAL programs.
• Ability to build relationships with students, families and staff from diverse backgrounds.
• Proficiency with ICT and digital learning tools for EAL support.
• Commitment to professional learning and growth.
• Proficient reading, writing, speaking, and listening in English and Karen/Karenni.

Responsibilities

• Support student learning individually or in groups under teacher direction.
• Translate communications between teachers and non-English speaking students in the classroom.
• Translate communications with non-English speaking parents during enrolment interviews and conferences.
• Assist in translating school documents and resources; utilise interpreting services.
• Prepare basic curriculum resources and learning materials.
• Liaise with external support providers, teachers, students and families.
• Support staff in student wellbeing.
• Provide teachers with insights into students’ cultural backgrounds when possible.
• Literacy in Karen/Karenni language is desirable.
