Job summary

SEEK seeks an experienced Drill & Blast Supervisor in Queensland to lead and coordinate drill and blast activities across the mine operation. You will oversee safety, quality, and performance, guiding a high-performing team to deliver production targets while maintaining regulatory compliance.

The role requires strong leadership, 5+ years in drilling and blasting, and current open licences. You will work closely with site management to optimize planning, execution and safety outcomes.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years' proven experience across both drilling and blasting operations in an open-cut mining environment.
• Previous experience supervising and leading high performing Drill and Blast crews.
• Current Queensland Shotfirer's Licence (or ability to obtain).
• Current Queensland Explosives Security Clearance (or ability to obtain).
• Current Queensland Coal Board Medical (or able to complete).
• Solid understanding of drill patterns, blasting techniques, explosive management and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

• Execute daily and weekly drill and blast plans, identifying constraints or deviations that may affect production.
• Ensure drill patterns, blast layouts and charging activities are completed safely, accurately and efficiently.
• Oversee explosive management, including secure storage, handling and regulatory compliance.
• Manage relationships with Site Management and client liaison.
• Lead safety culture: complete safety observations and critical control audits.
• Investigate and report drill-and-blast incidents, applying corrective actions.
• Conduct pre-blast inspections and ensure regulatory requirements are met.
• Provide guidance and training to drill and blast operators.
• Attend daily production meetings and summarize drill and blast performance.
• Collaborate with Mining, Technical Services and Drill & Blast teams.

Job description

We are looking for an experienced and safety-focused Drill & Blast Supervisor to oversee our Drill and Blast team. You will play a key leadership role in supervising and coordinating the safe, efficient and compliant execution of drill and blast activities across the mine operation.

The role provides an opportunity to lead a high-performing team, contribute directly to production outcomes and drive continuous improvement in safety, blast quality and operational performance.

Key Responsibilities Include:

Execute daily and weekly drill and blast plans, identifying any constraints or deviations that may affect production.

Ensure drill patterns, blast layouts and charging activities are completed safely, accurately and efficiently.

Oversee explosive management, including secure storage, handling and compliance with all relevant regulations.

Manage key relationships with Site Management personnel and client liaison.

Lead by example in our safety culture, completing safety observations and critical control audits.

Manage, investigate and report all drill-and-blast-related incidents, applying corrective actions within your area of responsibility.

Conduct pre-blast inspections and ensure statutory and company requirements are adhered to.

Provide guidance, coaching and support to drill and blast operators, ensuring competencies are maintained and responsibilities understood.

Attend daily production meetings and provide accurate summaries of drill and blast performance over the previous 24 hours.

Work closely with Mining, Technical Services and Drill & Blast teams to ensure effective planning, communication and execution.

About You

Minimum 5 years' proven experience across both drilling and blasting operations in an open-cut mining environment — candidates with blast-only or drill-only backgrounds will not be considered.

Previous experience supervising and leading high performing Drill and Blast crews.

Current Open C Class Driver's Licence.

Standard 11 or able to obtain.

S1, S2, S3 and G2 Supervisor Competencies (or ability to obtain).

Current Queensland Shotfirer's Licence (or ability to obtain).

Current Queensland Explosives Security Clearance (or ability to obtain).

Current Queensland Coal Board Medical (or able to complete).

Able to pass additional pre-employment medicals and functional as required.

Solid understanding of drill patterns, blasting techniques, explosive management and regulatory requirements.

Strong organisational, communication and presentation skills with the confidence to liaise with stakeholders at all levels.

Ability to prioritise, troubleshoot and make effective decisions under pressure.
