Job summary

RFI Technology Solutions is seeking a Draftsperson/BIM Modeler to develop 3D BIM models and detailed drawings for telecommunications projects from concept through construction and commissioning.

You will collaborate with RF engineers, design teams and clients to coordinate DAS, small cell, base station, fibre, and rail systems, while maintaining BIM standards and supporting project delivery.

Qualifications

• Diploma or Degree in Engineering, Drafting, Building Design, Architecture, or related discipline.
• 2+ years' experience as BIM Modeler, Revit Technician, CAD Designer, or similar role.
• Advanced proficiency in Autodesk Revit and strong AutoCAD skills.
• Experience coordinating multidisciplinary designs and BIM workflows.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain BIM models for telecom infrastructure using Revit.
• Produce detailed design drawings for DAS, Small Cells, Mobile Base Stations, and fibre networks.
• Coordinate designs with architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical, and fire services disciplines.
• Conduct clash detection and model coordination using Navisworks or similar tools.
• Generate construction documents, layouts, sections, schedules, and as-built drawings.

About Us

We are a leading telecommunications engineering and design company specialising in mobile network infrastructure, Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS), in-building coverage solutions, railway communications systems, small cells, fibre infrastructure, and major telecommunications projects across Australia.

Due to continued growth, we are seeking an experienced and motivated Draftsperson/ BIM Modeler to join our design team and support the delivery of telecommunications infrastructure projects from concept through to construction and commissioning.

About the Role

As a Draftsperson/ BIM Modeler, you will be responsible for developing and managing detailed 3D BIM models and drawings for telecommunications projects. You will work closely with RF Engineers, Design Engineers, Construction Teams, Project Managers, and clients to produce high-quality coordinated designs and project documentation.

This role provides an excellent opportunity to be involved in major telecommunications projects including transport tunnels, railway stations, commercial buildings, hospitals, airports, and large-scale public infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain BIM models for telecommunications infrastructure projects using Autodesk Revit.
• Produce detailed design drawings for:
• Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS)
• Small Cell deployments
• Mobile Base Stations
• Fibre and backbone infrastructure
• Equipment rooms and communication facilities
• Rail communications systems
• Coordinate telecommunications designs with architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical, and fire services disciplines.
• Conduct clash detection and model coordination using Navisworks or similar software.
• Generate construction documentation, layouts, sections, schedules, and as-built drawings.
• Incorporate laser scan and point cloud data into BIM models where required.
• Maintain BIM standards, templates, and project data integrity.
• Assist engineers with design coordination and technical documentation.
• Participate in design reviews and client meetings.
• Support project delivery teams throughout design, construction, and handover phases.

Essential Skills & Experience

• Diploma or Degree in Engineering, Drafting, Building Design, Architecture, or related discipline.
• Minimum 2 years' experience as a BIM Modeler, Revit Technician, CAD Designer, or similar role.
• Advanced proficiency in Autodesk Revit.
• Strong AutoCAD skills.
• Experience producing detailed engineering or infrastructure drawings.
• Understanding of BIM workflows and multidisciplinary coordination processes.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.

Desirable Skills

• Telecommunications industry experience.
• Knowledge of mobile network infrastructure including LTE, 5G, and DAS systems.
• Experience working on rail, tunnel, transport, airport, or infrastructure projects.
• Proficiency with:
• Navisworks
• BIM 360 / Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC)
• Civil 3D
• Experience with point cloud modelling and reality capture workflows.
• Familiarity with Telstra, Optus, TPG/Vodafone, NBN, Sydney Trains, or Transport for NSW project requirements.
• Understanding of telecommunications construction methods and site installation practices.
