Job summary

Country Fire Authority (CFA) in Ballarat invites a qualified Motor Mechanic to join the Ballarat workshop. You will perform preventative and corrective maintenance, and approved modifications on CFA fleet assets in a clean, well‑equipped environment.

Tools and PPE are supplied; shifts run 7:30am–4:30pm, with a 9‑day fortnight. The role requires a Motor Mechanic Qualification and a Heavy Rigid Driver Licence, plus First Aid Level 2 or the ability to obtain it.

Qualifications

  • Motor Mechanic qualification is required.
  • Heavy Rigid Driver Licence is required.
  • First Aid Level 2 or equivalent (training provided) for site safety.

Responsibilities

  • Carrying out preventative maintenance, corrective maintenance and approved modifications to CFA fleet assets.
  • Ensure fleet assets are maintained per CFA procedures and industry standards.
  • Maintain accurate work records and documentation.
  • Create electronic Work Orders using CFA software.
  • Liaise with Brigade members regarding planned work and progress.
  • Provide regular maintenance and safety reporting to the Officer-in-Charge.

    About the Role


    Are you a Qualified Motor Mechanic keen to secure an opportunity to carry out preventative maintenance, corrective maintenance and approved modifications in a clean environment to well‑maintained CFA appliances?


    This full‑time, ongoing vacancy will see you work in our Ballarat workshop with all tools and equipment supplied including uniform and PPE. The working hours are from 7:30am to 4:30pm Monday to Friday (with a 9-day fortnight).


    Grade 1a District Mechanical Officers carry out mechanical tasks associated with the maintenance and servicing of fleet assets as directed by the Officer‑in‑Charge (OIC) ensuring relevant safety standards and CFA maintenance procedures are adhered to.


    Your days will see you showcase your skills undertaking the following tasks:



    • Under the direction of the workshop OIC, carrying out preventative maintenance, corrective maintenance and approved modifications to fleet assets.

    • Ensuring fleet assets are maintained in accordance with appropriate industry standards and relevant CFA maintenance procedures.

    • Maintaining accurate records and documentation on work performed.

    • Creation of electronic Work Orders utilising CFA software.

    • Liaison with Brigade members regarding proposed work and work performed.

    • Maintaining reporting to the Officer‑in‑Charge on maintenance, administrative and technical matters.

    • Ensuring that Industrial Safety Standards are observed.


    About You


    The successful applicant will have the following:



    • Motor Mechanic Qualification and hold a Heavy Rigid Driver Licence

    • You must also have the skills and ability to maintain safety at an Incident Scene and render assistance to others (First Aid L2) (note: this can be obtained within the timeframes set out by CFA if not held).


    Furthermore, you will have proven ability to work as part of a team and actively participate in team discussions. Crucial to your success will be your ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing, you will have a proven ability to maintain a safe work environment and a proactive and energetic attitude with the initiative to seek tasks and challenges.
