Job summary

TasNetworks is seeking a Distribution Protection Engineer based at our Cambridge Depot in Tasmania. The role focuses on managing distribution protection assets, configuring protection schemes, and coordinating practices to meet reliability and safety standards.

About The Role

Base salary from $136,633 per annum (plus super)

As a Distribution Protection Engineer, you will play a key role in ensuring TasNetworks' distribution protection systems remain safe, reliable and fit for purpose. Working closely with teams across Network Risk & Assurance, Design and Estimation, Operations Delivery and Network Operations, you will provide specialist technical expertise to support network performance, manage risk and improve the effectiveness of protection systems across the distribution network.

You will be responsible for the ongoing management and continuous improvement of distribution protection assets, ensuring protection schemes, settings and coordination practices meet operational requirements and industry standards. Using protection performance data, fault records and engineering analysis, you will identify improvement opportunities, develop asset strategies and support investment decisions that enhance network reliability and customer outcomes.

Responsibilities Also Include

  • Review and approve protection designs, settings, technical specifications and protection philosophies.
  • Develop and maintain technical standards, procedures and governance frameworks for distribution protection systems.
  • Monitor and analyse protection performance data to identify trends, improve asset information quality and support evidence-based decision-making.
About You

You’ll bring experience in distribution protection within an electricity network environment and a track record of delivering practical engineering outcomes that support network reliability, performance and safety. Comfortable managing a program of work, you can balance competing priorities, coordinate activities across multiple projects and apply sound engineering judgement to complex technical issues.

You build productive relationships across the business and with external stakeholders, working collaboratively to resolve challenges and achieve shared outcomes. With strong analytical and problem-solving skills, you can identify risks, investigate issues and develop practical solutions that support a safe and reliable network.

You’ll Bring
  • A tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering
  • Demonstrated experience in distribution system and protection engineering within an electricity network environment.
  • Sound knowledge of distribution protection principles, protection settings and coordination practices.
  • Experience in the utility, infrastructure or energy sector.
