Job summary

Empower Living Pty Ltd in Narooma, NSW is seeking a compassionate Disability Support Worker to provide person-centred care to clients with complex mental health needs and disabilities on a casual basis.

You will support daily living, community participation and independence, work as part of a collaborative team, and complete timely documentation while adhering to safety policies and relevant checks.

Qualifications

• Certificate III or higher in Disability Support, Community Services or related qualification.
• Experience with disabilities and/or complex mental health in a support role.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Empathy, patience and non-judgmental attitude.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Sound judgment and problem-solving in challenging situations.
• Commitment to person-centred support, client choice and independence.
• Current first aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transport (desirable).
• Working with Children Check or willingness to obtain.
• Ability to obtain disability worker clearance as required.
• Flexibility to work casual hours including evenings, weekends, holidays.

Responsibilities

• Providing direct personal care and support to individuals with complex mental health conditions and disabilities, in accordance with their individual support plans
• Assisting clients with daily living activities such as personal hygiene, meal preparation, medication management and household tasks
• Supporting clients to engage in community activities, social participation and recreation to promote inclusion and wellbeing
• Building trusting relationships with clients, demonstrating empathy, patience and respect for their autonomy and dignity
• Monitoring and responding appropriately to changes in clients' mental health and wellbeing, escalating concerns to supervisors or relevant healthcare professionals as needed
• Maintaining accurate and timely documentation of support provided and client progress in accordance with organisational policies
• Collaborating with other team members, healthcare professionals and family members to ensure coordinated and holistic support
• Promoting client independence and self-determination by encouraging active participation in decisions about their support and goals
• Adhering to all health and safety protocols, risk management procedures and duty of care obligations

Empower Living Pty Ltd is seeking a compassionate and skilled Disability Support Worker – Complex Mental Health to join our team in Narooma, NSW. This is a casual position offering flexibility whilst making a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals with complex mental health needs and disabilities. You will provide person-centred support that empowers our clients to achieve their goals and maintain their independence within the community. This role is integral to our commitment to delivering high-quality disability support services that enhance the wellbeing and quality of life of those we serve.

What you’ll be doing

What we’re looking for

• Certificate III or higher in Disability Support, Community Services or a related qualification (preferred)
• Experience working with individuals with disabilities and/or complex mental health conditions in a support capacity
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build rapport with diverse clients and stakeholders
• Demonstrated empathy, patience and non-judgmental attitude towards individuals experiencing mental health challenges
• Ability to work independently and take initiative whilst also being a collaborative team member
• Sound judgment and problem-solving skills to respond appropriately to challenging situations
• Commitment to person-centred support and promoting client choice, dignity and independence
• Current first aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain this)
• A valid driver's licence and access to reliable transport (desirable)
• Working with Children Check or willingness to obtain one
• Ability to obtain a disability worker clearance as required by relevant legislation
• Flexibility to work casual hours including evenings, weekends and public holidays as required
