Job summary

Melbourne City Mission – Heidelberg Heights VIC is seeking a dedicated Disability Support Worker to provide therapeutic, person-centred care for children and young people with disability at B-street STA respite home. You will support daily living skills, community access, and meaningful activities in a structured environment.

• Provide high-quality, therapeutic, person-centred support to children and young people with disability.

B-street is a specialist Short Term Accommodation (STA) respite home that supports children and young people under 18 years of age with disability, complex support requirements, and behaviours of concern. Our service provides a safe, nurturing, and structured environment where young people can develop skills, build confidence, participate in meaningful activities, and enjoy positive respite experiences.

Our team works collaboratively with families, carers, therapists, and other professionals to ensure each child receives individualised support that promotes wellbeing, independence, community participation, and the achievement of their personal goals.

The Disability Support Worker is responsible for providing high-quality, therapeutic, and person-centred support to children and young people with disability and complex behavioural needs during their stay at B-street. Working within a structured and supportive environment, you will assist participants to build daily living skills, engage in recreational and community activities, develop positive relationships, and achieve their individual goals.

About you

We are looking for someone who can:

• Utilise proactive and trauma-informed approaches, implement behaviour support strategies in line with individual Behaviour Support Plans, and contribute to creating a safe, positive, and engaging home environment for all participants.
• Demonstrate patience, resilience, strong communication skills, and a genuine passion for supporting children and young people to thrive.
• Provide direct support to children and young people with disability and complex behavioural needs.
• Implement Positive Behaviour Support strategies and individual support plans.
• Support participants with personal care, daily living skills, recreational activities, and community access.
• Create a safe, engaging, and therapeutic home environment.
• Build positive relationships with participants, families, and key stakeholders.
• Maintain accurate documentation, incident reporting, and progress notes.
• Promote participants' independence, choice, dignity, and inclusion.
• Work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary support team.

Essential:

• Current First Aid Certificate Level 2 (including current CPR)
• Satisfactory completion ofNDIS Support Worker Module andDHHS Fire Safety Online Training
• Demonstrated experience working with people with behaviours of concern and behaviour support strategies
• Internet-enabled device for Time & Attendance when working offsite.
• Experience working within a residential setting and/or working with people with disabilities with complex support needs.
• A demonstrated knowledge of the Disability Act 2006, the guiding principles of the State Disability Plan and other relevant legislation, policies and guidelines.
• Other skills and/or experience such as key word sign, positive behaviour support, etc. that would support the delivery of support to people with disability.

• Valid Victorian Drivers license
• Right to Work in Australia
