Job summary

Melba Support Services in NSW seeks a Disability Support Worker to help people live meaningful, self-directed lives across SIL, ISA, and community programs. You’ll deliver personalised support promoting independence, choice and control.

No prior disability experience required; you’ll be supported to grow with training, flexible shifts including weekends, and a values-driven team. A Certificate IV in Disability or Diploma is highly regarded.

• Willingness to obtain First Aid/CPR and Working with Children checks.
• Commitment to dignity, respect and choice for people with disability.

Responsibilities

• Support people to build independence, confidence and life skills.
• Assist participation in community, recreational, educational and employment activities.
• Provide practical day-to-day support, including personal care when required.
• Support health and wellbeing, including medication assistance where required.
• Build positive relationships with people supported, families and networks.
• Maintain accurate documentation and collaborate with teams to deliver high-quality, person-led support.

About the Role
As a Disability Support Worker, you’ll support people with disability to live meaningful, self‑directed lives. Working across a range of services and environments, you’ll provide personalised support that promotes independence, choice and control while helping people achieve their goals, build skills and participate in the things that matter most to them. Our Disability Support Workers may work within one or across multiple service environments, including Supported Independent Living (SIL), Individualised Support Arrangements (ISA), Community Participation programs, Short Term Accommodation (STA), and other community‑based supports.

What You’ll Be Doing
In this role, you’ll provide support that is tailored to each person’s goals, preferences and support needs.

You may:

• Support people to build independence, confidence and life skills
• Assist people to participate in community, recreational, educational and employment‑related activities
• Provide practical day‑to‑day support, including personal care and daily living assistance where required
• Support health and wellbeing, including medication assistance where required and authorised
• Build positive relationships with people supported, families and support networks
• Maintain accurate documentation and records
• Work collaboratively with colleagues and stakeholders to deliver safe, high‑quality, person‑led support

What Makes a Great Disability Support Worker?

You don’t need previous disability experience to make a difference. We’re looking for people who genuinely care about supporting others and share our commitment to human rights, inclusion and person‑led practice.

• A certificate IV in Disability, Diploma of Community Services or equivalent qualification (highly regarded but not mandatory)

Previous experience in disability, aged care, community services or support work is highly regarded, but not essential. Most importantly, you’ll bring a genuine desire to support people to live the life they choose.

Requirements
To be successful in this role, you’ll need:

• Current First Aid and CPR Certification, or willingness to obtain
• Current NDIS Worker Screening Check
• Current Working with Children Check
• A current Australian Driver Licence
• Availability to work a range of shifts, including weekends and active nights where required
• Successful completion of pre‑employment screening, mandatory training and ongoing compliance requirements
