Job summary

St Dominic’s College in New South Wales seeks an experienced Director of Teaching & Learning to join the College Leadership Team for 2027. You will lead teaching and learning across the College, champion explicit teaching, and drive professional learning and curriculum alignment with NESA requirements.

You will lead data-informed improvement, build staff capability, and broaden pathways for diverse student strengths and post-school destinations, including HSC planning.

Qualifications

Job description

St Dominic’s College is an Independent Catholic Boys’ Secondary School, committed to creating a caring environment where educational excellence is evident within the Catholic Tradition and the Spirit of Edmund Rice.We are seeking an experienced and energetic Director of Teaching & Learning to join our College Leadership Team at the start of the 2027 College year.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a progressive and collaborative leadership team and to help shape the next phase of teaching and learning at St Dominic’s, with a strong focus on student growth, academic achievement, explicit teaching and increasing pathways and opportunities for our students.

About the Role

The Director of Teaching & Learning is a member of the College Leadership Team and provides strategic and day-to-day leadership of teaching and learning across the College. The role works closely with the College Deputy Principal, Director of Curriculum, KLA Coordinators and teaching staff.

We are looking for someone who is genuinely passionate about great teaching and can bring energy, ideas and academic ambition to the role, while building positive relationships and bringing people along with them.

A key priority will be student growth. We want to continue strengthening the way we understand and respond to student progress, ensuring students are appropriately challenged, supported and provided with opportunities to achieve their best.

The Director will champion explicit and evidence-informed teaching, support teachers to strengthen classroom practice and lead professional learning that is practical, purposeful and connected to the needs of our students.

The role will also have an important focus on increasing pathways and opportunities for students. We want to ensure our curriculum and learning opportunities respond to different strengths, interests and aspirations, including HSC and post-school pathways.

Key Responsibilities

Provide strategic leadership of teaching and learning across the College.

Contribute to the broader direction of the College as an active member of the College Leadership Team.

Place student growth at the centre of teaching and learning, using evidence and data to understand progress and inform improvement.

Champion explicit, evidence-informed teaching practices across the College.

Lead professional learning that is relevant, practical and supports genuine improvement in classroom practice.

Work collaboratively with KLA Coordinators and teaching staff to strengthen curriculum delivery, pedagogy, assessment and academic achievement.

Bring a strong understanding of the HSC, senior secondary learning, assessment and student achievement.

Help expand pathways and learning opportunities for students, recognising their different strengths, interests, aspirations and post-school destinations.

Build the capability and confidence of teachers and middle leaders to lead improvement within their areas.

Promote high expectations and a culture of academic ambition, engagement and curiosity.

Work closely with the Director of Curriculum to ensure curriculum and assessment practices meet NESA and College requirements.

Current NESA teacher accreditation.

Relevant tertiary teaching qualifications.

Demonstrated senior leadership experience in teaching and learning.

Strong knowledge of curriculum, assessment and NESA requirements.

Demonstrated capacity to lead whole-school improvement and professional learning.

Highly developed leadership, communication and interpersonal skills.

Capacity to lead change and build staff capability.

Commitment to Catholic education and the Edmund Rice tradition.

Highly Regarded

Postgraduate qualifications in education and/or educational leadership.

Experience in boys’ education.

Experience leading strategic teaching and learning initiatives.
